I got my electric bill today. It was a lot higher than normal (some of my service charges had doubled), but even weirder was the amount, considering it is my last bill covering only 2008:

AEP is messing with me.

And here I was just thinking "wow, that's cheap" and completely ignoring the number 20.08 itself. Then again, I have electric heat, an electric range & hot water heater, etc. Still!

What the heck is a "Customer Charge"? Isn't that really what ANY bill is? As opposed to the "non-customer charge" ?

I think that the "Customer Charge" is what AEP charges you for existing in their database. It's the only charge on my bill that didn't increase.
If only I could charge people $4.75 per month for taking up space in my brain...

Except that then you'd have to give it right back for taking up space in ours!

Ohio is still ranked in the lower half of the US in terms of electric rates (~20% below the national avg.).

Also, AEP has the lowest rates in Ohio, so you've got that going for you too.

My bill has been $4.61 for each of the past four months... I'm going to wait until THEY figure that out.
