Press Release:
MORPC seeks public input on Candidate Projects for the 2012 Metropolitan Transportation Plan
The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) is seeking public comments on the transportation projects for the 2012 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP). The 2012 MTP is for the MORPC transportation planning area, including Delaware and Franklin counties, Bloom and Violet townships in Fairfield County, and Etna Township and Pataskala in Licking County. The MTP will include highway, pedestrian, bikeway, and public transportation facilities including improvements identified by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) and the Delaware Area Transit Agency (DATA). Federal funding may be sought in the future for projects included in the MTP. The MTP will consider effects upon low-income and minority residents and will include an air quality conformity analysis. The MTP is for the horizon year 2035.
MORPC reviews local plans and studies to identify transportation needs or potential transportation projects and place them in a list of candidate projects. The assembled list of candidate transportation projects will be evaluated over the remaining months of 2011 for inclusion in the 2012 MTP. The public and local governments are asked to comment on the candidate list of projects or the interactive map to ensure it reflects their plans, studies and transportation-related needs. MORPC also asks for comments on the positive and negative aspects of the projects, any projects not included, incorrectly described or shown, or are no longer planned. Projects must be on the MTP to be eligible for federal funding. The comment period ends July 31, 2011.
"Transportation touches our lives in some way every day. It provides the means for us to get to work, do our daily affairs, and allows our businesses to be successful,†states Robert E. Lawler, MORPC Director of Transportation. “Given the limitations in funding facing Ohio and the U.S., it’s important that central Ohio carefully selects the best transportation investments to support the quality of life of our residents and the prosperity of the region."
The list of candidate transportation projects can be viewed on MORPC’s website: http://morpc.org/tplan .
Please submit any additional project suggestions to be considered for inclusion in the 2012 MTP to MORPC, 111 Liberty Street, Suite 100, Columbus, Ohio 43215, on or before Sunday, July 31, 2011 or by email to Andrew Taylor at tplan@morpc.org.
