A friend recently pointed out milo.com to me. It is a website which helps you find stuff you would normally buy online locally. It is still pretty new and does not seem to have trickled down to small businesses in Columbus yet.
A lot of the stuff still comes up at big box chains, but I am beginning to think that Amazon is pretty much the opposite of the shop local movement. It may be cheaper and easier to get most of your stuff from the internet, but places like Amazon have no employees here*, do not contribute to the tax base and basically just take our money out of the community.
It would be hard to shop entirely local, but this is potentially a nice tool for finding some stuff that may be closer than you think. I really hope they eventually branch out to the small local retailers as are found in the Short North, etc.
*and work hard to keep it that way to avoid collecting state tax
