over the past few months i've been going through 20 years worth of mix tapes i've made. i bought a nice professional cassette deck so i could begin digitally archiving them before something happened and i lost them forever.
the first tape of note i came across was an ambient mix that i did in late 1995 called "ambiento". at the time it was done i'd been living in columbus for a year or so visiting world record faithfully every thursday to get the newest stuff that poppa hopp had to offer and spending way too much money for a guy just a few years out of college. as you can see by the tracklistings it's pretty much a who's who of IDM/Ambient/Electonic at the time. this tape is what got me in the door for many gigs, eventually leading me to work at mekka, albeit playing a different type of electronic music.
the tape itself was recorded using just about any sound source i could attach to a mixing board, turntables, cassette decks, cd players, keyboards, etc. and, as is with any mix tape, it was done on the fly in one take. all main tracks were from vinyl and some of them are rare to find to this day. i've digitally cleaned up the original recording to get rid of the dreaded hiss that comes along with cassette tapes.
i thought i'd share this with everyone in appreciation for your support over the years. hope everyone enjoys it as much as i had fun making it a loooong time ago. more to come.......
