Probably worth throwing up a discussion thread here as it seems that not many people realize that they're around.

They're over on Courtland St. behind the empty lot where the shell station used to be at 5th and High.

Looks like they're going to open in April according to twitter( http://twitter.com/MiddleWestSpts ).

I spoke to one of the founders last year, and he mentioned that they will start out selling vodka and move into other spirits later. Aside from that I know nothing.

Anyone know more?

They're planning on getting operations started on April 10th.

I'm scheduling an interview with them, so if anyone has any specific questions, post them up and I'll do my best to get them all answered. ;)

I walked by this morning a peeked in. The still looks incredible.

Questions?

I'd like to know more about the spirits they'll be making there and if they have any plans for whisky making (and more specifically rye whisky).

I'd like to hear more about the still. If you've not seen it, it's an impressive piece of equipment.

Lastly I'd like to hear about what kind of legal issues came up WRT starting a distillery and how they dealt with them.

What an interesting logo for their company. I wonder what their inspiration was with this half-leaved tree.

This is another exciting Columbus first: "Central Ohio's first Artisan Distillery". While I think we deserve one and the timing is right, I'd like to know why our fair city was chosen as their home base.

What kind of price range will we be looking at for their spirits, and what retail options will be available? Will we be able for find it at local bars, like bristol bar just blocks away?

What is their raison d'ÃƒÂªtre? With hundreds of brands what do they bring to the table that is different?

What inspires them?

Is there anything particularly regional about their spirits (like Rehorst, the Wisconsin distiller that uses Wisconsin ginseng in their gin)?

And, um, yeah... the whole taster/consultant/etc. thing. Just not trying the Blammo Special Reserve.

Will reserve final judgment when I have actually tasted product, but I will say that it will be a GREAT day for Columbus when we can buy good locally produced Gin and Whiskey.

Vodka doesn't excite me at all. sorry. need more flavor.

I'm with you.

But I'm also quite happy that they came up with the idea of macerating local produce etc. into vodka and selling it, as a way of helping to support their gin and whiskey production.

Sure, but that said, I like to keep some around for infusions and mixers. It would be nice to get a quality local vodka :-)

yeah, i'm not really a vodka or gin fan, but if you're gonna have a martini, might as well use the local stuff! peeked in that place the other day, it's like willy wonka world for adults.

Vodka may not taste like much but it sure will getcha hammered. Therefore vodka is full of win.

but whiskey is still better.

THAT is a nice thing indeed. I missed that on my first read of the article.

Yup. Total 180 on their vodka. Imagine some spicebush-berry-infused vodka, for example. Do it right, I bet that could get national attention -- nothing else like it around.
