Just caught this article from This Week News. Jimmy V's is adding a fifth location with the purchase of Goody Boy. Not razing the building, but adding on to it.
No more cheap but slightly creepy breakfast in SN. :(

Oooo...I like this move actually.
The Goody Boy was such a nice "front"
Please don't get rid of the sign...
It is better than the massive empty sucking hole of non-activity there now, but is also lamentable for not being something new and interesting.
A.
With so many shitty parking lots, why would he want to bulldoze this building? Glad to hear saner minds prevailed.
This is a great move and I'm excited for the new location! Will be interesting to see how it looks when its done.
Tommys should have opened a 2nd there.
Just realized I would have loved to have seen Jacks and Benny's open a second location there.
I think Jimmy V's will be a nice fit. They also know enough about the business to do it right.
I've given Jimmy V's several tries, and every time the food isn't that good. Something is always off, but I'm willing to give it another try in a different location.
The outdoor patio will be a HUGE plus though! (assuming open till 1am or so). 1600 sq ft is a ton of space to have outside.
I refuse to patronize any business owned by Jimmy Velio. Most people who live anywhere near his rental properties know why.
Sad to see Michael's closed as I sort of enjoyed going in there on occasion. It'll be interesting to see how the new joint is modified to fit tables. Surely they won't remove the patio so they'll need to stretch back... or up!
As long as the new owner leaves the free-standing sign alone, I'm cool. We're losing too many of those oldies-but-goodies.

Maybe there's something about that corner that attracts scumbags

The IV Commission will not let that sign go anywhere. You can read a lot of the back and forth on the proposed changes and fairly significant renovations/additions in the IV Commission notes over the past year. There was a lot of recommendations by the commission and revision by the owner for the design.
I was wondering what was going on. I guess anyone who knew the name Jim Velio, would have known all along as his name was always listed in the notes.
I am just pleased something is going on to bring normal business activity to that corner.

wait, before we all go slingin' names and piling on shit and digging up old threads, let's at least make sure we've got all our characters straight. Jimmy V the owner of the property, but is NOT the same as Johnny, the scumbag who used to run Goody Boy and did jail time. Jimmy V may have his detractors as well, but just want to be clear before these guys all get grouped into the same class under the haze of memory.
I am referring to Jimmy Velio's oh so lovely property and tenants all over the south side of Columbus. As that he might be litigious, let's just say I have a long and interesting history (as do most folks who live anywhere near his south side rentals) with Gezeem Velio (his real name).

I agree. I refuse to patronize any business owned by Jimmy Velio.
Check out his rental properties, and his bar on Parson's Ave. We continue to fight with him over his business in Ganther's Place.
Well, I like Jimmy...I like Jimmy V's...and I welcome a spot in the Short North to watch a game and have a drink and a gyro.
