Has there been any discussion about the forthcoming pub/restaurant in the old Damon's location on Nationwide. I will miss those legendary CU Meetups at Club Reign. But they're obviously putting some money into signage and refurbishing the place.

I spotted the sign a few weeks ago, but then promptly forgot all about it.
I assume this place is a chain, given the "Est. 1898" on their logo?
Otherwise it looks a little funny to see that coupled with "COMING SOON!"

It is opening in early February. It is not an Irish pub, Michael Otooles is the name of the guys grandfather. There are two guys running it, the first guy was the regional chef for Hyde Park and the second guy was the regional manager of Hyde park, so the restaurant is sort of their baby. It is supposed to be business casual with a good menu and good bar and they are thinking about putting in a nice wine cellar if the place does well initially. So it is not too dressy, but you don't want to wear a jersey to eat. I think the "Established in 1898" is the year his grandfather was born. Sounds like another great place will be coming soon to downtown.

Cool, thanks for the details. Do you have any way for me to get in touch with them? Would love to do a feature or possibly a CU meetup there in the summer. ;)

Cool, I was wondering about this place myself. Everyone is going to assume it's an Irish Pub though. :)

I'll work on getting you some contact information. If I remember correctly this space has a pretty decently sized patio which will be nice once it gets warm again.

I saw that there was some serious black smoke pouring out of the new home of Michael O'Toole's today and the dispatch is reporting that some welders accidentally set fire to some built up grease. I hope this doesn't set back the opening too long.

Fire damages Downtown building
Tuesday, January 19, 2010
BY THEODORE DECKER
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCHCrews renovating a restaurant started a fire this afternoon that closed part of Nationwide Boulevard and sent clouds of black smoke rolling over Downtown.
Firefighters were called before 4 p.m. to the former Damon's restaurant at 89 E. Nationwide Blvd. and found fire coming from a kitchen vent that led to the roof.

Just talked to one of the owners on the phone. He said the fire damage was pretty minimal, and shouldn't set their opening back by more than a few days. Will have more info posted up in a feature tomorrow. ;)

RESTAURANT REVIEW | MICHAEL O'TOOLE'S
Inconsistencies hamper promising American lineup
Thursday, May 20, 2010 2:59 AM
BY JON CHRISTENSEN
FOR THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
In 1898, Michael O'Toole opened a restaurant in Perry County. His legacy lives on with the opening in February of Michael O'Toole's on E. Nationwide Boulevard: One of his great-grandsons is a co-owner.
With a meat-and-potatoes emphasis, the menu is more American than Irish.

Considering the amount of wineries in Ohio, it would be nice to see more Ohio wines on the menu

Is this a good place to watch sports? Thinking about heading over later to catch the end of the 1st round of the Memorial.

Review: Michael O’Toole’s Restaurant & Bar
By: Morgan Kelley
Michael O’Toole’s is proud of their Irish heritage, but doesn’t necessarily call itself an Irish Pub. Which means that you’ll find Guinness and fish & chips on the menu, but not a lot of traditional Irish cooking beyond that. The focus of the menu is on steaks, ribs, burgers, pasta and sandwiches.
