Great discussion you guys.
Wow. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Street (wayfinding)signs for establishments/local businesses that we need to thrive and survive and help everyday to define who we are and where we are going. Diverse, and expressive, but comfortable and approachable.
Some areas are much more developed so the synergy is right where I was thinking too- we have some momentum in some areas- let's build on it!
I couldn't agree more that the images you shared Columbusite are FANTASTIC...wow. That theatre/deco style is something impressive! It evokes the swank and fun times-how to celebrate, even during downturns in economy...very reflective and positive!
WE should really gather images from all those references you shared to help the community here see what is going on and although perhaps out of budget or a different purpose, they are there, done, living and breathing references for us!
Merion Villager- yes!!! The corner markets are missing here. They represent space for something fresh-literally or figuratively. Juice bar/coffee/ice cream, flowers.... or galleries, boutiques, or a good-old bodega? Sorry... I was excited...
It is amazing how some banners, benches, murals, arches, info. kiosks planters, (hand-painted or otherwise with live plants) makes a huge difference in bringing a neighborhood together- not just throwing seeds in the ground, but giving them breathing holes and sunlight!
Thanks everyone for the great input! Hope you can join us tomorrow night!
