Hello fellow Shop-Keeps and friends of us,
My mother was robbed at knife-point this afternoon while working at Mary Catherine's Antiques in the Short North. She and the owner, Melaine, are ok, both were there when the robbery occurred. The armed robber threatened to kill both of them.
The robber is a white male, small to medium build, about 5'8", he had short, dark hair and a light beard. He was dressed in jeans, a ball cap and winter jacket and looked pretty clean-cut, mid-twenties. He spent a very long time walking around the shop and took cell phone photos of the merchandise in the shop and told the clerks that he was looking for items for his wife.
The north end of the Short North has seen an increase in crime recently. We have installed cameras in our parking lot and we are working with the Short North Business Association and the police department to do what we can to help the crime in the area.
I am mostly concerned this guy will hit again. I know that many small business owners read this site. I hope you will take note of this man's description and take appropriate measures (CALL THE COPS) if this guy shows up at your place of business. I know the description is pretty generic...but if something feels funny, trust your gut.
Many thanks for passing this message to your retail pals,
Elizabeth Lessner
