The restaurant at The Maennerchor will hold an open house Friday evening (January 29th), starting at 5 p.m. New manager Sue Gall (of Hey Hey fame) invites you to sample some of her new food offerings. As Sue says, The Maennerchor is a little-known Columbus gem, truly worthy of your patronage. It's open for meetings, parties, weddings, receptions, concerts, you name it! But most of all, remember it for the authentic German food Sue now serves at The Maennerchor restaurant.

Just got back and it was going strong.
I'm guessing until at least 9:00They have everything on the menu on a buffet.
All you pay for are drinks.Very authentic place (this is my first time going).
Having lived most of my life an hour or so from Milwaukee I have visited quite a few authentic German places. From the floor tiles to the drinking lyrics on the wall this is truly authentic. The food was good enough that I will be going back to pay and have more. My wife, who hates spicy food, raved about the goulash. I could tell the Suerbrauten was old school. It had true flavors from a long marinading, rather than just a sauce on the top.
The famous kraut balls, I could take or leave. But I'm not a fried sourkraut person.
The atmosphere was worth the trip in itself. Some people were speaking German at the table, which was a treat for me. I miss the polyglot of other cities and it gave me a chance to brush up on my German both in conversation and trying to translate the drinking songs on the wall to my wife.
They also had a German band that was playing with volume restraint.
My only fear is the location. I'll go back, especially in the summer when I can walk their.
Atmosphere 10
Service 8 (can't really rate it)
Food 7.5 (but rating the food from the buffet really isn't fair.
Lets put it this way. It was the best German I have had for 25 years, east of Lake Michigan :)On the way out we walked through the outdoor beir garten.
Oh, yeah, I'll be back. Especially when it warms up!Posted 2 years ago # -
My husband, daughter and I dined there this evening, everything was delicious. The Friday special was all you can eat fish and chips served w/ Cole slaw. Yum!

So does this mean they've gone public again? I know they were private, then were public (open to non-members), then out of nowhere went back to being a private club again.
We thought it was pretty good when we went, but nothing ever really measures up to Oma's cooking. That's the yardstick that I'll always measure German food against. It for sure beat the pants off of our latest meal at Juergen's.

I know they have a jazz show on Monday evenings. Not sure what that entrails.

This is also a surprisingly good venue for music, I have seen three phenomenal shows here in the last five months by nationals acts.
