MadLab Theatre Presents: Divide and Conquer

Only MadLab could combine the thrill of new works with the excitement of a survival of the fittest competition! Kill or be killed! 5 one act shows enter, one leaves!
On the first weekend of the four week run..., the first ten minutes of the five one-acts is shown and, by audience votes, one of those plays is voted out of the running. Then in week two we show the first
twenty minutes of the remaining four plays, one of which will be voted out by the audience. Week three: thirty minutes of the remaining three plays will be shown, with one play being voted off by the
audience. Finally in week four, the last two plays will be shown in their forty-minute glory, and the audience will vote for and select the winning show that will be crowned champion to thunderous applause.

You get to vote!! Results will be revealed live at the show!!

Selectosome by Kit Morris
The Andalusian Dog by Jason Beehler
Sleeping with Strangers by Jack Karp

so what happens if the friday night audience picks a different show than the saturday night audience? are there then different shows each night for the rest of the run? is it possible to have 2 shows on the last friday that are completely different from the 2 shows running on the last saturday? cuz that would be kinda cool...

Yes. Because Friday and Saturday nights are totally independent of each other, it would be TOTALLY possible. It's gonna be all up to the crowd in the house, essentially. How cool is that?

I've been told the tickets are discounted every week you show up. So, like, if you came on opening Friday to see the ten-minute show and paid $8 for a student ticket you would get a little voucher thing to prove you were there, so if you come back the next week to see the twenty-minute show you would only pay six bucks. Then if you came the third week for the thirty-minute segemnts it would only be four dollars for you to get in. By that math, a person who pays the member-rate on opening weekend would see a free show closing weekend. And it's pretty cool. Well, I think it's pretty cool. Then again I'm a member, so I'm totally biased.

I agree. I heard a piece on NPR last night about foodbanks running out of food. The demand is seriously outpacing the supply. That really sucks. I realize "sucks" is a pretty inadequate word, but you know what I mean. I hope everyone who comes to see the show will take advantage of the discount and bring boxed and canned goods with them. I hope so. :-)

There's a good mix of plays here, from the dramatic to the comedic to the strangely surreal. Consider it like the package of cereals that come in the little boxes. Except here, the boxes get bigger the closer you get to finishing them. You pitch the Fruit Loops the first week, because you're really not crazy about Fruit Loops, and you get a bigger box of Apple Jacks the next week.

I encourage everyone to come out the first week and sample it, or check it out in later weeks if you can't come this week. If nothing else, this may be your one and only chance to vote against me for something if you've been dying to do so.

I say people should come and vote against anything EXCEPT the one Kit wrote. And not just because I directed it or because Kit wrote it or because our actors are ridiculously talented; they should keep Kit's show in the running past this first weekend because in the second weekend the show features a totally realistic hologram! OooOOOooOOOoo! Technology!

Sorry: I'm reading this thread and I'm confused with the ticket prices. If I go see the show and bring something for the MidOhio Food Bank, I get two bucks off; and if I come back again, I get the two bucks off for seeing the show again plus another two bucks off if I bring another dotation to the Food Bank? Is that right?

For the record, I encourage people to vote against the other shows as well for all those reasons. A hologram of future movie star Dirk Bentley is not to be missed.

Here's the skinny on the discounts. The "return customer" discount is
cumulative. The "food bank" discount is not. So, if you were a
student, your starting ticket price would be $8 on opening weekend.
If you brought some food to donate, your price would be $6 for that
show. If you came back the next weekend, your price would be $6. If
you brought food, it would be $4. If you came back the third weekend
and did not be food, your price would be $4. And if you came back for
the fourth and final weekend, your starting price would be $2 and if
you brought food, you would be getting in for free!

Crudbunnies, I don't know if I can make the first round of performances! Does Week 2 show the beginnings of all the plays that make the cut or am I going to be a little lost?

This week is the first 10 minutes and next week is the first 20 minutes which will include of course the parts of the shows that we do this first week. The only thing you will not see will be the show that was voted off.

Also remember, that Friday and Saturday night are voted seperately so each night may not have the same show voted off the first week.
