The National Buzz Grows Louder for Lydia Loveless

After impressing reporters from Spin Magazine, The Chicago Tribune, and the LA Times, Coshocton native Lydia Loveless will play a show at Rumba Café on Friday, April 20th. The recent trip to SXSW was incredibly successful with winning over the press as well as gaining new fans.

Thanks for the thread, Walker! We are on the road this week (we played Ashville last night & head to Charlotte today) but are super looking forward to coming home and playing this show. I believe the Andy Shaw Band is on the bill as well, so people will definitely get their money's worth that evening. Haha.

I just happen to have picked up an advance copy of the Firewater disc last time we were at Bloodshot HQ, it's yours next time i see you! (or i can drop it off if you still live in the same place)

About as perfect as an outdoor show could be. Beautiful night, amazing music, adorable kids dancing in the grass, ran into scores of friends, then had Dirty Frank's cuddled on a swing by the Scioto and rolled around town with the top off my jeep. I couldn't ask for a better day off...

Unfortunately it was a mattress night. I got promoted and moved to Polaris this week. This also entailed moving my days off back to Monday and Tuesday. (you know, the two most funnest days of the week when all of the best activities are scheduled)

edit: I did however force my coworkers to watch every Lydia video I could find. I think I created at least 1 new fan.

I concur with lifeliberty and bastardsuperstar that last night was memorable in many ways, and the early sunset was a gentle reminder that Summer is fleeting, and every evening needs to be savored. Andy Shaw Band's Caribbean rhythms were very soothing, great music for a warm Summer night.
Hearing and seeing Lydia Loveless on Bicentennial Stage was a real treat last night. Her beautiful voice and multiple instruments filled the Commons with the new sound system, and everyone looked spectacular on the beautiful stage with shifting light patterns and colors. I was particularly taken by their execution of "Crazy", as everything EVERYTHING was in beautiful sync - vocals, instruments, tempo - what a beautifully orchestrated song. What is that Ben, a cello? The underlying richness from that instrument was sublime, something that needs to be experienced live.
@ Ben/Blammo - I wanted to say "hi", but they had gates all around the stage, and dead center on the grass for some reason. It made it hard to shoot photos! Here's some images for you, DavidF and anyone interested, more here:

Thanks for coming out everyone! That was a fun show at a pretty dramatic venue! I know losing the City Center was a bit depressing commerce-wise, but creating that space right downtown seems to have made the most of an unfortunate situation. I have enjoyed the opportunity to travel the country over the last couple years and see how other cities provide for and encourage meeting/interaction/event spaces downtown & Columbus Commons is definitely a step in the right direction.
Great pics, Patient Zero! I may use some of those for promotional purposes & I will contact you & negotiate the terms if it comes up, thanks! And it's just a big ol' bass, not a cello.
I assumed that caged-off space RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE STAGE would be reserved for photographers or something…but no. Just a big bunch of fence right where it would have been really cool to have people sitting, standing, or dancing. Oh well, I'm sure there was some reasoning behind it.

The grass behind the fence looked dead as hell, my guess was they were trying to reseed the patch that takes the most damage from dancing in front of the stage....
