So, Anne & I finally jumped on the bandwagon yesterday and started watching Lost. Blasted through the first 9 episodes (goes fast when there's no commercials) and enjoyed it so far. I have to admit though that I thought I'd be required to pay closer attention, but I haven't. I think Heroes actually requires a little more attention than Lost. There's a lot of mysterious stuff going on that hasn't been explained, but nothing overly confusing like I expected. Or maybe it's easier when you're watching them back-to-back instead of taking seven day breaks between episodes.
Either way though, It's A++ material so far.

Its about time.
I've never seen Heroes, but you're right about Lost not being very hard to follow. The episodes are pretty straight forward and the "mysterious" stuff sort of tacks itself onto what's already going down on the island (that's really a poor way to describe it, but whatever).
The fun part is trying to keep track of all the seemingly random and sometimes hidden clues they drop periodically throughout the season, and trying to decipher what they mean or how they are connected.
Keep in mind, Walker (Lee), you've still got 15 episodes to go (in the first season.)

Yep, there's a whole underlying world to the very subtle, tiny clues in Lost. Hell, they just published a book by an imaginary publisher from the world of Lost...
Written by one of the people onboard Oceanic 815.
There's a HUGE guerilla internet campaign as well, with the ability to log onto websites of companies on the show...hack them...and get hints.
Trust me man, there's a LOT more there just under the surface as well as the apparent mysteries.

Maybe we just haven't gotten that far into it yet, because I haven't heard any company names being mentioned. We're still going through character backstories, which is interesting, but a little formulaic at the moment.
I have enjoyed some of the little twists in the backstories though. Good writing. Like how Sayid was revealed to have a bullet wound, and the natural assumption is that he was shot, but it's revealed that he shot himself. Or how Sawyer displayed his letter as if it was written to him, but instead it was written by him. I'm enjoying that sort of thing as it's more common in movie scripts than TV shows, but otherwise, so far I've not really felt like I'm trying to figure anything out. I feel like Arrested Development had more trivia and tidbits strewn into the story than these first episodes of Lost.
But yeah, I'm expecting it to get better and better. :D

On a side note, I caught the tale-end of Heroes the other night, and I'm afraid it hooked me. All that teleportation stuff was pretty well done, I must say.
What do you think the chances are that it will go into reruns before the new episodes in 2007?
(I realize I probably should have posted this in the Heroes thread, but I wanted to avoid any spoilers.)

I'm not sure if they'll do reruns or if they have something else to fill that slot until the new episodes start back up. Doesn't NBC sometimes rerun their shows on Bravo? Or, I think you can watch episodes online at nbc.com, but I'm not sure if they have full episodes or not.

I thought SciFi was running Heroes marathons too.
Plus I thought you could watch them on nbc.com

Yep and Yep.

Spectacular. I was just thinking that I needed another TV show to take up all this free time I keep pretending to have.

So, did you finish the 1st season yet? If your not hooked by the end I don't know what to say. The 1st season is however the best of the 3 seasons so far.

Yup, sure did. And Yup, hooked!

Yeah, we wrapped Season 1 up last weekend. AWESOME show. Quite a season-ending cliffhanger. I think we're going to try to view as much of Season 2 as we can during christmas break when we have a little more free time. 8)

Well, if you hustle you can probably get caught up in time for part 2 of this season. Not sure if part 1 of this season is available online or not, but would be easy if so.

It is.

I watched a sneak peak of the upcoming Lost on Feb 7th on ABC's site and it looks like good stuff.... possibly Jack's background regarding his travels to Putek (sp.) Thailand (he speaks about it somewhere in Season 2 to Sawyer) and evidentally Sawyer escapes the mini island because there is a scene of Saywer and Jin drinking beer in the jungle. However you can never go by the previews because they are notorious for leading you down the wrong path (ie.. Jin speaking english turned out to be a Hurley dream....)

I loved the first season, and I would watch the rest of them online, but last night when I tried to watch what about brian online, it kept messing up. :x
and I already watch too many shows instead of studying anyway. haha

...wow. Remind me never to use the phrase "I wish he'd get hit by a bus" loosely!
Once again, great job of revealing what feels like a lot...but really hardly anything at all. Sets up nicely for what's coming though, which appears to be all out war between the two islands.

Last night was probably the best episode since the season 2 premiere. At least I think so. Hopefully they keep it up.
[SPOILER]
Although the whole being blind sided by a bus thing is a bit played.

What I liked:
- Juliette's background story, and the "twist" that she's an "Other" against her own will. Who else could Benjamin be using and may not really be as much of a "bad guy" as we were all initially led to believe?
- Guest spot by Robin Weigert as Juliette's sister. She played Calamity Jane on Deadwood, so that's three actresses from Deadwood now that have had small parts on Lost.
- The setup for what's to come. Sawyer & Kate getting back to the main Island means that we're finally going to get to see some of the other characters again (FINALLY). I'm going to guess that Jack will discover some more things about the Others and potentially become sympathetic for some of them (as he already may be for Juliette). An oncoming "war" between the factions will only make things worse, and Jack may wind up on the side of the Others as a twist. Stranger things have happened.
What I didn't like:
- The scene with Carl (Karl?) where Kate & Sawyer found him tied up in the brainwashing room. It felt cheesy. Especially the drum'n'bass music they were making him list to. I thought he was attending a rave in there when they first opened the door.
- When Pickett shot the radio out of Kate's hand but none of their other bullets even came close as they fired a hundred shots racing through the jungle. I think the scene could have worked with the gunshot startling Kate and making her drop the radio in the ocean, causing it to short out.
- Too much action, not enough mystery. Haven't we all seen gun battle chase scenes through jungles in other movies? This isn't really what I want out of this show.
Mystery / Theory
- It was implied that Ben is Alex's daughter. Which wouldn't make sense because Danielle didn't know who Ben was when she caught him in a trap, and if she did know, she had no known motive for lying to help him infiltrate the Hatch. Also, I believe Danielle came to the Island pregnant, and Ben was born and raised on the Island and has never really left. My theory is that when Alex was taken away from Danielle she was raised as Ben's daughter, so that's why he's being implied as the father. That makes the most sense to me at the moment, but I'm sure they could spin it in an entirely different direction.
- Something else to think about... was Juliette brought to the research compound for a specific reason or just because she stood out in her field? The variety of research being done on the island(s) seems to be pretty diverse, but the "recruiter" seemed very insistent on her coming to join them. Ben may have promised to let her go if she's already served her purpose during her three years on the islands.
Can't wait for next week!

Thank god we have 16 straight episodes to go. I hated the rerun-athon last year. And I did think the Carl scene was a little too much "Clockwork Orange." Carl might pan out to be an interesting character.. we will see. Kinda upset we haven't heard so much as a blip about Michael and Walt. Are they gone forever? My only thoughts are that the actor playin Walt might be too old to play a boy only on the island for about 2 months now.
