After hearing so many glowing reviews about the Los Guachos taco truck, I finally got around to visiting their restaurant location. It's in a small strip mall near the corner of Bethel Rd & Godown adjacent to The Winking Lizard.
The dining room is small & quaint with a counter that seats close to ten people and then five or six tables that seat four people each. The furniture is often mentioned, and rightfully so. Every chair and table is hand carved from wood with many unique and ornamental designs. The chairs are quite large and heavy, but with have cushions to sit on. Food is ordered at the counter and then quickly brought to you. I'll also add that the lady working there was extremely friendly and welcoming. The dining room was also quite clean.
Luckily I went on a Monday because after 4pm all Tacos Al Pastor are buy one get one free. And if you've heard anything about this place, the Al Pastor is the star of the show. Behind the counter is a large rotating skewer of pork, similar to what you'd see at a gyro establishment. Atop the spinning pork is a pineapple which drips down juice that marinates and tenderizes the meat.
My pork was shaved off of the spit to order and placed on small corn tortillas. Sliced pineapple is added along with a sprinkle chopped onion and cilantro.
At each table are two metal bowls, one containing lime wedges and the other with a mixture of marinated onions. Every table also has two different sauces, a very spicy red chile sauce, and a mild green sauce. I tried both sauces, and enjoyed them equally.
I couldn't believe the value at literally $3 for my order of four tacos! The tacos are normally a modest $1.50 each when not on special.
I'm looking forward to trying the other menu items such as the Gringas (al pastor pork on a toasty flour tortilla topped with onions and cilantro plus melted and crusted-up cheese). On Wednesdays they have a special on the Gringas. The tortas, volcanes, and burritos also look excellent.
I'll report back soon after trying other menu items. Highly recommended.
