I think the public housing will be going away sooner than you think, and some of the crime issue may be alleviated in the near future as well, primarily due to a $10M investment from OSU to help revamp the area, and the leadership of Gee, Coleman and CMHA in transforming those areas:

Nope, it's not next to... but it's definitely around. ;) And, depending on perspective, quite near. After living in Hilliard, moving to Westgate definitely seemed like moving "downtown" - which of course, it isn't.

The bad part about OTE is that KingLincolnUrbanEnthusiast lives there. And can that nieghborhood think of anyone other than Elijah Pierce to "celebrate"

I hope that you are right - but suspect (especially with CMHA involvement) that public housing and section 8 aren't going away anytime soon. Sure, Poindexter Village is going away and Woodland Park will get a boost from OSU in terms of beatification. But really, outside of Woodland Park, I don't expect to see much change from OSU; Woodland Park is already beautiful so I don't see a great bump in their property values. I hope that I'm wrong - but I believe, south of Main and north of Long are forever going to be mired in problems of poverty. The City of Columbus isn't anxious to relocate it's unequal distribution of "social services" away from the Near East Side either. (I know it says so in the area plan - but have yet to see much from those plans implemented in policy.)
