I am looking for some referrals to good and reliable contractors or repair companies that are good with front porches and hopefully reasonably priced.
It seems that mine is sinking and it’s also pretty old the wood is breaking down etc.
I am willing to jack the porch up myself and repair it but everyone I talk to about that looks at me like I have lost my mind. So I am just going to assume this plan is not a good idea.
Anyone think home owner insurance will cover this? I doubt it but it’s worth asking.
Or if there are any other suggestions toss them my way. :) thanks a ton

So I called a few people for inspections and quotes. The two that came out did not look to much into the issue at hand. When I asked them about materials both were quick to say they would build with composite decking. Don't get me wrong composite decking is nice but I just don't think it's what I want for a front porch.
So am I calling the wrong people should I call a building contractor or an architect? I really want the porch to blend with the house.
As far as the two estimates it's a lot which I expected. But it makes me real leery of people when they start tossing out finance numbers and want my credit score before even inspecting the porch. It sort of seems like a quick sell.

My front porch never had a foundation undernieth it. It was like a hill for sled riding when I bought the place. I demo'd a lot of it and jacked up the porch and the roof and then I replaced a lot of it.
I have a thread here with pictures that documents most of the process. Sorry, kind of got lax on the pics towards the end.
I would be happy to stop by sometime and take a look at what you have and give you some recommendations/advice/assistance.

Man you did a fantastic job on that. So I guess it is possible to DIY. I bet it saved you a bundle as well the estimates I have got so far for the (deck) front porch were from 6k-8k. I will get a hold of you for questions I am sure and thanks for sharing. It really reinforced how I want this to end up and how it can be done.
Thanks

I have pre-fabricated concrete porch that has been sinking. I am looking to replace it with a poured concrete porch. Does anyone have any experience with something similar? Or any referrals for concrete work in general?
Thanks!

Pre-fab concrete porch? I'm not familior with that sort of thing. Got any pics? You may be able to resort to slab jacking and keeping the structure.
For pured concetete work I'd recommend Johnny Concrete. He's my neighbor, did a sidewalk for me and has done a lot of work that I've seen that looks fantastic.

prefab cement was pretty popular in the burbs. its a pretty common thing. sutherlands in fact used to stock many sizes along with the steps.

Yeah... they're fairly common in the burbs. They're basically hollowed our concrete slabs that attach the house with some brackets and then are leveled with concrete shims. I had a quote to have it jacked up and reattached, but am a little concerned about having to make the same fix again down the road. Plus, because they're hollow, they make a good place for chimpmunks, squirels, and who know what else to live in. If the price is reasonable, I'd rather just replace the whole thing.
