Right, that's sort of what I'm afraid of. I mean, if you get a reputation for speaking poorly about products they wouldn't be so stupid as to send you more products, right? In a world where even ethical decisions are made based on cost-benefit ratios, this is just common sense. Bloggers are a dime a dozen.
And if a blogger's receiving new toys is dependent on how positive their last review was (or if you prefer, dependent on how well they fit in with the pitch a marketing dept. wants to make), how is this different from any other astroturfing plan? I guess it's different in that you don't actually get any money, just the toys. So it's kind of less useful than any other astroturfing plan.
No offense to you, I'm only talking about the business model. This just seems like pay-for-play tarnishing the one saving grace of blogs. Having this working at a local level doesn't seem any less scummy than what the national corporations are doing.
