Looking for Art Donations for Friends of Goodale Park Gala

The annual Friends of Goodale Park Gala will be the first Wednesday evening in December. This is our biggest fundraiser. We're looking for artists interested in making donations to the silent auction. If you're interested in donating a piece of art (suggested minimum value $35), please contact us at auctionitems@friendsofgoodalepark.org , and provide your contact information.

This year, as thanks for those making donations, I'd like to really highlight all these fabulous artists who do so much to help us out. I'll try to get a small bio blurb or information, as well as pictures of the artist and/or some pieces. I'll feature these both on the Friends of Goodale Park Website as well as post them to our Facebook fan page. Artists are also invited to attend the gala as thanks for the donation.

Deadline for submissions is November 15. Please email the above, or send me a pm if you prefer, and I can provide more details and discuss this with you.

I love the idea of recycling the park to support itself. Count me in for a few ornaments, bottlestoppers, etc. I think I still have 1 "roughed out" salad bowl left to return from the blowdown of 2008.

I have a few small pieces of wood left (under 2-3 inches square) that I'm willing to share with other artists/craftspeople for the purposes of donating to FGP, PM me if interested.

Chris, keep me in mind the next time FGP takes out a sizeable or interesting tree trunk (10" in dia and larger). Winter is the best time to harvest wood for working, while the tree is dormant (i.e. any time it doesn't have leaves).

Oh, Devon, you just are the best!

I actually have a large piece left over from Ike damage, that has been aging in my backyard waiting to be cut into firewood. Just didn't get around to it. We only build 2 or 3 fires a year - for the looks, not really the warmth. Not sure if it's big enough or the right type of wood, but you're welcome to take a look at it.

The Friends of Goodale are going to be doing some serious tree pruning very soon here, but I don't think it will involve branches of that size. We also have a couple of dead trees that will be coming out. I'm not working on setting those up, but with check with Rick F, and try to get info back to you if there's anything we can send your way :)

Great, let me know when you're working and I'll help out for a coupla hours. Might not be able to get this years wood done for 2009 but, certainly the next. We'll keep a rotating stock :)

Can I drop by Saturday afternoon to look at that piece of wood? PM whats good for you.

Have you looked into having corporate sponsors? Also, I bet you could sell many tickets by having Bill and Peggy of Bono fame there?

For the gala, we get donations from many businesses in the area. All of the food and drink is donated -- which makes the event possible.

We don't currently seek corporate sponsors for the gala (although we do seek corporate support in the form of supplying volunteers or providing grants for projects). It's something we are considering.

This year's gala will be held at the Freshwater House, 114 Buttles Avenue. This home is amazing!

We're still looking for more silent auction donations. Please send an email if you can donate. Your donation will get you in to see this home, and will earn our gratitude.

The volunteer work related to this event is handled mostly by board members and their families, with a few long time helpers. I don't think we're running short handed this year, but I'll let you know if we need a couple more people to serve wine.

We do need volunteers during the gardening season to help with maintenance in the park. Work days are posted on our calendar and facebook pages. We're very welcoming of all volunteers, and it would be a great way to get to know us if you'd like to help with next year's gala :)
