The consensus amongst my group of friends is a collective meh. Very underwhelming compared to years past. We're actually talking about All Points West instead, the line-up (or what's announced so far) is much better.

Seems to be a some overlap between the 2 so far, and the Lollapalooza lineup isn't even officially announced.

I'm definately getting mine, however I call upon the rock gods to give me some TOOL. It's rumored. Hopefully it's true.

I love Tool. I would like to see them somemore but I don't know that I am going to Chi town to see em

The only band on the line up I'd travel to Chicago to see is Tool. Otherwise, as someone above said, meh.
I wish we had more European-style multi-day metal festivals in the US.

http://consequenceofsound.net/festival-outlookNot quite the music I was looking for. I'm looking for something more along these lines:
http://progpowerusa.com/site/bands/
http://heavymetal.about.com/od/festivalsandevents/p/wacken.htm
http://www.graspop.com/
http://www.metalwayfestival.com/Unfortunately, the bands like these don't tend to play the US often, and if they do, it's usually alone. We keep on saying that our mid-life crisis will be spent backpacking around Europe for a summer going from one festival to the next and enjoying the scenery in between.

I personally am excited for this festival, I was lucky enough to see Tool at Bonnaroo 2007 and the blew it away. But I think the Lollapalooza lineup is looking really good. http://tinyurl.com/d9bfu8 I bought my tickets today and got a great deal on a room that overlooks the park.

They consistently bring in a GREAT lineup of bands, many of which don't play the US often.
And of course, Wacken is like the metal fan's pilgrimage to Mecca...
