I'm sure you could find some Mormon churches to camp out in front of here.
I was just invited via Facebook. There is a national event listing with links to local events around the country.

Unfortunately, the Columbus "presence" seems to be organized by folks outside of Columbus (hence the arbitrary designation of "city hall" as a mustering point instead of the central/photogenic/in-your-face-Dispatch/NBC4-viewable/Obama-visited crossroads that is the statehouse -- does anyone even know where city hall is?).
Does equality OH have anything planned?
city hall is on the NW corner of Broad St and Front St.

Yes. Its at Front and Broad Sts. Downtown.
The old city hall was on State St between High and 3rd.

I'm on their mailing list and haven't heard a thing.

Thanks, but that was a rhetorical question. My point is that the statehouse is much better known throughout the city, that it's at the intersection of the two main roads of Columbus, as well as the at the intersection of many (most?) of the main COTA routes, and that it would be impossible to miss it. I've lived here all my life and still have to look at a [google] map to figure out how to get to city hall (especially with the construction going on in the area).

moo!
city hall is one block from the statehouse. you can see it from the state house lawn. and there are info maps around the downtown area that tell you where city hall is. I dunno, I just see this as a non issue compared to the bigger issue.
and i want to say that the noticibility issue probably only comes up in the cities where you have a state capital competing for space with a city hall.

No doubt.
So, a poster on the the jointheimpact site says that there is a permit in the works for "city hall" which would seem to imply that there is some sort of organization taking shape. Anyone know who that is?

I usually get them too, but it's easy to miss something. kind of weird but maybe I'm foolishly pinning my hopes on repeal of DOMA. I think that would allow for lawsuits under full faith & credit.

Why restrict it to Mormons? There are plenty of Fundamentalist bigots that would just as likely put us in a gas chamber if they could get away with it. The best defense is a good offense I say. There's been a LOT of religious backlash lately to go with the conservative backlash. Makes sense that in the last 50 years there's been a 300% decline in the number of churches, yet, quality of life improves and hate crimes go down - not a coincidence. Ignorance breeds hate, and a lot of people are waking up to the fact they don't have to be scared or need to rationalize their hate to this invisible force crafted to absolve them of all responsibilities of their lives... We need to "Cure" the state, of the religious disease that has infected it with its "version" of morals and get back to a "free and just" governance that assumes ALL PEOPLE are created equal.
The Gay Community needs things like these protests and mobilize us, be our cause. A lot of these problems really are at our own hands. We've been complacent for the last 15 years, many of us worried more about our vices than our causes. Its always darkest before the dawn. These laws wouldn't have been passed if they weren't worried about where it was going. America is the greatest example that oppression is bad, diversity and freedom from persecution is good (definitely gotta think bigger picture here :)). We WILL win - its all a matter of time. Unfortunately, it'll take planting baby boomers through attrition to probably do it.
That being said: (taken from facebook)
Let your voice be heard this Sat. Nov 15th at 130pm for the National Rally against Prop 8 at Columbus City Hall- 90 W. Broad St
There has been some talk about the Columbus Statehouse but to change the location is so last minute. You need permits to put on a rally like this. I have already put in the app for City Hall. And the statehouse there are a list of requirements needed to get a permit.
So for now we are keeping it at the
City Hall Building
90 W Broad St
Columbus, OH 43215
On November 15th at 1:30pm EST, our community WILL take to the streets and speak out against Proposition 8 and all of the other pro-equality losses that we have faced in our lifetimes, in our parents’ lifetimes, and for many generations before us. WE CAN’T DO THIS ALONE! WE NEED YOUR HELP! We need organizers in every major city to work with us and get out the protest! I know you’re all tired from all of the work you’ve done for this great election year, but I’m asking for one more push! Let the country hear our voices together. Let them see that we are a strong, adamant, and powerful community that deserves equal rights, and CAN’T BE DEFEATED!
Send this post to everyone! We have one week and must react to the pro-hate votes cast against us! Let’s help our LGBTQ friends, families, neighbors, and each other to IMPACT this country with a demand for our basic human rights! Join the cause, join the voice, and JOIN THE IMPACT!

Protest Tips:
You are welcome to bring signs, but make sure the sticks for picket signs are no thicker than 1/4 inch.
This is a peaceful protest. We want a spread a message of love, not war! There are likely to be anti-gay demonstators we have to remember to not sink to their level!!
Anyone have a megaphone or know someone who has one? Let me know if you do.
The protest starts at 1:30pm EST. I requested the City Hall Grounds til 4pm.
AND another thing....
Kudo's to Columbus for bein' one of the best friggin' places on the planet for embracing diversity. That and I felt outright bad for attacking the other people's beliefs: hypocritical, and a little uncalled for. Its not my true way.
I don't retract what I said, because I think its time for that "low level" conversation about beliefs, freedom of expression (including religious freedom and starting to set some limits on it in kind), and for the fighting to get dirty, ugly, and potentially violent. Seems to be the way of change. Nobody likes it, but, thats the most likely path.
Bottom line: I respect the belief systems of others, even those I don't understand (as I don't always have to understand) - up and to the point at which those beliefs impact my rights as an individual or couple. To me this is the same conversation as setting in the front of the bus with my girl Rosa Parks.
Wow - that's a little over the top rant. Not sure which part of that is from Facebook and which is yours, but bigotry is never solved with hate and vitriol.

He's totally not a bigot. Everyone gets a little frustrated and needs to vent sometimes. This is a person who makes a real contribution to the community as a whole, and is incredibly positive.
You go, turned! I'll show up with my hubby in support -- even though it will mean we may have to miss our regular Satruday afternoon lunch at Surly Girl. Damn, I haven't even been posting here long -- and how many times have I mentioned that place. Must have a crush :)
See ya Saturday, hon!
Who the hell doesnt know where city hall is??
And if they wanted a real rallying point, how bout the santa maria!! Lets get some publicity going for that thing it seems dead in the water!
Oh and i booo prop 8!! Lets ban marriages of all people who appear on the Maury show and do the world a real service!

I wasn't implying that he was the bigot. I just think the appropriate path to resolve this civil rights issue is more in the vein of Martin Luther King than the Black Panthers.
