It's about that time. So, I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of good orchard/pumpkin patches that are not too long of a drive - and are not Lynd's. Not that there's anything wrong with Lynd's, besides the fact that I've been there too many times.

There is Jaquemin Farms outside Dublin on Hyland-Croy Rd. I think Buckingham is still open on Cheshire Rd. by Alum Creek Lake. If Utica is within range, you have Legend Hill and Branstool.
There is Circle S on the south side, but it's a madhouse full of kids.

I was so incredibly dissapointed with Circle S last time I was there so I was hoping to find a new pumpkin patch. The place is really expensive and everything is pretty run down. I will miss their pumpkin donuts...but I have to find a new patch...plus I live in Delaware now so it is a bit far.

When I was a youngster my parents would take us to Pigeon Roost Farm on Route 40 in Licking County. They have nice displays and usually have fun things for the little ones as well.

If you are a true apple lover you must visit Windy Hill Apple Farm aka Charlie's apples between Johnstown and Newark. Charlie grows heritage varieties organically and makes his own hard cider, sweet cider, and cider syrup. All are divine!
I just picked Liberty, Scarlet O'Hare and Jonafree yesterday. I'll go back in October for the Goldrush variety, the sweetest best keeping apple I've ever run into. I pick as many as my trunk can hold and keep them in the fridge for months.
Here's my full writeup from last year: <argh, was going to insert and found my host is down. I guess this is the 1%. I'll come back later when it's up>

Rhoads Farm Market | 1051 St. Rt. 56 E. | Circleville | OH | 43113Rhoads is great, and if you travel a bit further down Rt. 56 toward the Hocking Hills you can also visit the Apple House in Laurelville (http://ourohio.org/index.php?page=1076). They have some of the best apples and cider that I've ever tasted.

+1 on the Laurelville cider, it's the best I've ever had anywhere, light and clear and sweet. And, they make an excellent cider vinegar.

This is where we went last year and it was better than circle S IMO.

Renicks Farm Market, 23 south near South Bloomfield, about 10 miles south of 270. The pumpkins are in, this weekend they have a corn roast, Blue Grass band, hot chocolate and lots of pumpkins. Its far enough out of town, so the prices are right. I love the real Amish butter!!

GAWD the smell of roasting corn, why does no one roast chiles that way around here?
ETA: come on, we can do it standing around in an orchard in Indiana...

Lynd's Fruit Farm in Pataskala: http://www.lyndfruitfarm.com/main/I'm going to Lynd's tomorrow to grab some apples. Never been to Lynd's before - will let you know how it goes.
Young's is a cluster right now; everybody and their uncle wants a triple scoop of their full fat icecream and first dibs on perfect pumpkins. I stay as far away as possible this time of year - come to the Bluesfest behind Antioch instead!Posted 1 year ago #
