The Onyx Nightclub on Henderson Road in Arlington closes it's doors after a shooting last week that sent two people to the hospital. I live less about a mile from the venue and I have to say I am not unhappy with the news. Saturday nights at the club have gotten out of hand. My friends were at a bar across the street and heard gunshots from the parking lot on more than one occasion. If closing the doors keeps the gun-totting element out of the area...Bravo!!!

Glad I live in inner city Columbus where the biggest hazard is un-even sidewalks, and not ghetto Upper Arlington.

Yeah, I agree. And I'm sure the Kroger right next to it appreciates it as well.

That club was a joke, a friend of mine dragged me there. I like rap but the dj they had was garbage, the bartenders were a joke, the clientele was just as bad. I'm surprised it took them this long to close it. That club didn't belong in UA to begin with lol.

Is this the bar that was attached to the Arilington Cafe?

Yes is was attached to Arlington Cafe, Cazzies, and the banquet hall

That's what I was thinking. I never went to Onyx, but the rest of that place always had some shady people running around, especially on the clubbin nights.

Suburb nightclubs are just freaking weird in general.

^ c'mon, bars located in old Rite-Aids with Nickelback cover bands, men's rooms with the stalls ripped out of the walls, fist holes through drywall everywhere and everyone drinking Bud Light never get old. Especially at closing time when everyone hops in their cars and cuts through subdivisions they don't even know to avoid the DUI checkpoint.

It's Upper Arlington. What do you expect when you live "down by the river"?
This is coming from someone who is tired of hearing "what do you expect you live close to campus".

On Kenny, there's an intersection where the cops like to sit and clock, and harvest the southbound patrons from the cluster of bars at Old Henderson.
I really try to stay off the roads anytime near bar closing time.

I used to have a lot of fun at Arlington Cafe, and a while back we did a mini high school reunion thing there and hung out in the open air section between a couple of the bars. Was really cool as a smoker, because it was considered a patio for smoking purposes but almost felt like you were inside still (Cazzie's maybe?). Wasn't there very late to see what Onyx turned into at night, but I'm sure I can imagine it.
If it was me, I think I'd just give up the ghost on the whole dance club aspect of the bar. 9 times out of 10, in any part of the city, the dance club concept ends up exactly like Onyx apparently did. I'd love to see them turn it into an entertainment venue instead, with local music etc.

This place in UA snooty "Upper Arlington" makes my hood and King Lincoln lower "Mt Vernon" Avenue look sedate, genteel and extremely quiet, safe and low key by comparison. Guess these gang bangers and rappers are headed to the more upsscale burbs where its safe and they are welcomed with open arms. As it should be LOL!

Really, King? Have you spent much time in Arlington? I would much rather run out of gas there than off Mt. Vernon any day.
