for me it's tough to narrow it down to just 5, but here goes...
ComFest
The Ohio State Buckeyes
The Gallery Hop (and Short North in General)
The LeVeque Tower
Cameron Mitchell Restaurants
anyone else care to add anything???

The Short North (especially North Market & Gallery Hop)
Community Festival
Reasonable cost of living
Ease of commuting (by this I mean that when I CHOOSE to go outside of downtown I can make it anywhere in about 15-20 minutes)
Awesome locally-owned restaurants (pick your favorites mine include but are not limited to basi, Barcelona, Betty's, Bodega...and that's just the B's!)
I wish we had a real farmer's produce market which did not resemble Panera (North Market)

I don't get it? Panera and the North Market look quite a bit different...

+1
I think the North Market is pretty sweet and has a very diverse selection of foods. I don't get it either.
My five favorite things about Columbus:
1) The people - Seriously. I've met such a wide variety of good people in this city that I think it would be hard for me to ever leave.
2) The potential - I already think Columbus is a great city to live in, but with things on the rise right now, it's an even more exciting time to see how things will continue to improve and update.
3) The neighborhoods - We've got more awesome neighborhoods than most other cities our size. And several more new neighborhoods on the rise!
4) The energy - When I talk to people about new ideas, everyone seems so genuinely passionate about what they're thinking. I think there's a huge creative market here with ideas going untapped everywhere I look.
5) The food - While Columbus doesn't have much in the way of "signature" food, I think our diverse range of eating options is constantly overlooked on both a local and national level.
Comfest
Schiller Park
Weather (I know, sounds crazy, but I like the variety)
Growth (37 years here, I've seen a lot)
People...this is a big one. I've spent a lot of time in other cities here in Ohio and elsewhere, and don't think on a whole I've ever seen a more active, friendly community.
1) Doo Dah Parade/Comfest/Red White & Boom and other events in my neighborhood
2) It's not Chicago or New York, but we have a good diverse array of restaurants, stores, etc.
3) The city is growing and it feels like the best days are ahead.
4) People are generally unpretentious, tolerant, and friendly.
5) Blue Jackets and Crew games
1) The People - definitely agree w/ Walker on this one. A nice diversity and lots of really nice people here. Even the average "random" person on the street seems to be more polite than folks I've encountered in larger towns. Maybe it's just the "midwest mentality", but whatever it is, I like it a lot.
2) The cost - Columbus has a pretty nice cost of living, while at the same time managing to offer a LOT of great amenities and things to do around town - and we're still growing!
3) OSU - not JUST the sports teams (though I like them too), but a university this size brings a LOT of great business and opportunity into the city, keeps a steady flow of smart young people coming in (at least for 4 years), and gets the city a lot of national attention (again, not JUST on the sports teams)
4) The dining options - holy hell if you can't find somewhere good to eat in Columbus, I don't know what to say - it seems like we've got 4 restaurants on every corner! Cameron Mitchell's places and the North Market being a couple of my particular favorites
5) the "events" - all the downtown festivals, the Franklin Co. & Ohio State Fairs, even various festivals in the 'burbs - there's so many cool things that happen in town throughout the year.
Tailgating
Wendys (sounds dumb, but when you are out of town and hungover, you miss not having one on every corner)
Com Fest
Easton
Buckeyes (the candy and the team)
1. Diversity
2. Food
3. It's not Chicago or New York
4. Lakes, Ponds, Rivers etc, etc
5. Snow Amount (Not too much to make life horrible, but still get it)
ballbrite wrote Tailgating
number 1 thing to do in columbus for sure.
1. The Flow Skatepark (www.ridetheflow.com)
2. Some of the best tattoo artists and shops in the world (www.stainedskin.com)
3. Ohio State Football/Cheerleaders (Tied)
4. Rivet (www.rivet.com)
5. Its an urban city with a very small town feel
For me it would be:
1. The potential: It really does seem that Columbus has the potential to eventually become a great place to call home for people who prefer urban living. It is so much fun to watch all of the changes and developments right here at ground zero.
2. The downtown/urban community: It awesome to be a part of a growing community of people who are passionate about Columbus reaching its full potential as a city. I especially sense this here on Underground where there are so many great people. Can't say enough good things about it.
3. The neighborhoods: Until I moved to Columbus, I had never been exposed to places like German Village, Brewery District, Italian Village, Victorian Village, the Short North. I took to them instantly and it really boosted my love of this city.
4. The restaurants: For the most part, we have it all - though I would like to see more family-owned ethnic places and less of the corporate chains.
5. Proximity to fun stuff: I love being so close to Lake Erie and the Islands. I am huge roller coaster fan so it is great being close to Cedar Point, Kings Island, Geauga lake, Holiday World, Etc. Its also nice being so close to many other major metro areas like Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Cinci, Indy and Chicago.
The things I probably like the least about Columbus are:
1. The weather: Too cold, dark and gloomy for way too long.
2. The midwestern car-culture: It seems that we are right in the middle of the most deeply-ingrained car culture in the country. The overwhelming majority of the people in the region seem to hold strongly to the belief that cars/sprawl are safe and desirable, and that cities are unsafe, dirty, and to be avoided.
3. OSU: The extreme Buckeye hype wears me down, and sometimes it just feels like OSU has too much influence over what happens in the city.
4. Downtown in its current form.
5. The weather: did I mention that it is waaaaayyyyy too cold for too long!!
Funny, I was going to post that one of the things I hate about Columbus is that the summers are too hot and the winters are too mild. I don't even consider winter to be winter here

wRONG THREAD!
good to hear all the support for comfest!
Here are my favorites in order.
High St. (23) - I can't think of a cooler street that runs right down the middle of any city.
270 - No matter what, you can't get lost here. Well... I guess some people might be able to. Really, the highway structure in general is great. Once you learn the basic map, you can get anywhere.
The People - People that live in an area or city is very very important to me. I wouldn't be here if it weren't cool. Only 2 places that I've been where I felt the people were genuinly more inviting and down to earth was in upstate NY and Indy. #3 out of... oooohhhhhh... a thousand other places isn't half bad though. If you want to get technical with it, I'd have to knock it down to #4-5 if counting Canada. Vancouver and Toronto to be exact.
Nightlife - Seriously! Ohio really is where it's at if you want to talk the midwest/great lakes region. Look around you. Cleveland is alright, but not what it was. Cinci and Detroit you gotta worry about getting robbed or worse, more so than Columbus anyways. Detroit of course being the better of the two, but perhaps more dangerous. There is everything for anyone here. Just examples of the diversity. Wallstreet, Outland, Club Ice, Light, Lotus... I could go on and on... but the point is the nightlife diversity is most definitely here. Once the "new rave" catches on a bit more here, like it has in Chi and NY for the past couple of years, then you'll see a new boost in it's support. It's already here... just fyi... check the event threads (cough cough) 8)
Suburbs - Yeah I know. Not the cool place to live, but if I ever decide it's time to get away from it all, there are some really nice areas around Columbus that don't have houses stacked upon houses due to being around before Columbus swallowed up it's surrounding areas. So when I miss it and live in the burbs, it's only a 15 min drive back down to the heart of it all.
The food here as a whole is almost a negative though. People will dissagree, but to me it is very very bland. I almost travel just to get good food elsewhere. We do have the jump on one thing food wise that nobody can ever touch. Sweet corn!!!!! After that, you've got a couple spots here and there, but even those are still fairly bland.
1. cost of living! every time i think about moving and i start browsing other cities' craigslists, the cost of living everywhere else makes me appreciate columbus that much more.
2. the diversity here, so many different kinds of people from so many different places. and everything that comes with that--food, festivals, etc.
3. the people i love are here
4. pretty decent scene in terms of music, arts, theatre
5. comfest/hempfest/red white and boom/doo dah parade...all of those things that make columbus unique! i think columbus itself (the suburbs not so much) has a very independent spirit and i dig that.
I'll have to disagree with you on the food James. Everyone thats come to town to visit me has raved about the food. Perhaps your not hitting up the right spots?
From Cosi to El Vaquero to the Cameron Mitchell spots, we have tons of stuff here that people just don't have access to in other states. I could be wrong but I'm gonna say that you are taking this for granted a bit as you've lived in the area your whole life.
The only thing I think we're lacking on the restaraunt front is a truely legit brazilian steak house. I know there's Amazon Grill up on 23 but that place is sub-par at best.
*Friendly people - Ohioans are the best.
*Above average looking woman - This is one of the first things I noticed when I moved here. Not that I'm on the market but it's nice to be surrounded by pretty people.
*Diversity in restaurants - I have 15 extra pounds to prove it.
*Nothing is more than 20 minutes away.
*Constantly changing and evolving nightlife scene. - Keeps it interesting
