Ohioans continued their trend of spending more each year on liquor, running up $734.8 million in sales in 2009, $15.7 million more than in 2008, the Ohio Department of Commerce reported Monday. Total gallons of liquor sold also increased to 10.7 million in 2009, 1.82 percent more than the year before.
Liquor sales in Ohio have been increasing year-over-year for more than a decade.
Last year's liquor spending netted a record level of state liquor profits at $224.2 million, with an all-time high profit margin of 30.1 percent.
