Adding to earlier recommendations, here are three nice, light, inexpensive whites for the dog days of August. All were obtained at Hausfrau Haven in German VIllage, but are also available at other area wine stores.
1. Falerio (Italian) 7.99
Could make you forget about pinot grigio, especially at this price. Light, fresh and dry. Comes from the Adriatic coast of central Italy (Marche region). Nice aperitif wine, or with very light foods
2. La Linda Torrontes (Argentina) $10
Torrontes is a grape grown almost exclusively in Argentina and Uruguay. The best wines produced from this grape have a lovely floral fragrance and flavor but are completely dry, which is exactly what you'll find in this wine.
3. Evolucion Furmint (Hungary) $10
Furmint is an obscure grape used to make Hungary's great dessert wines, but this version is dry, fruity and perfect as a poolside or picnic quaff.
Salut!
