http://www.columbusunderground.com/forums/topic/drop-off-locations-for-christmas-trees-2009-2010I think what Chris meant is: Where is the $20 guy taking the trees? Since the Columbus drop-offs require that each tree be accompanied by someone with an ID proving they reside inside the Columbus tax base, a guy with a truckload won't be able to take them there. Will they end up in Columbus residential dumpsters headed to the landfill where yard waste and trees aren't supposed to go? Will they be dumped in our alleys or ravines?
There are many unintended consequences of the city's refusal to organize tree pickup; disposing of trees is costly, but so is not doing it. The city knows darn well trees will end up in the landfill with taxpayers paying the tipping fees. I too would like to know where the OP plans to take these trees.

The trees will be taken to the Kurtz Brothers site in Groveport. There is no limit to the amount Franklin County residents can bring, and we are Franklin County residents (Windgate Village in 5xNW).
We're not scammers and I would never dream of dumping trees anywhere. We weren't even aware ourselves of the city NOT taking trees this year until this morning. A few minutes after reading the article, we thought, "Hey, we've got a big old Dodge Ram - we could pick up trees and take them to one of the drop offs. How much would WE pay for that?" and came up with the $20. To show that we're for real, a $5 discount if you text TREE CU when you're ready to get rid of your tree.
For those who don't have a car or truck, or the time to drive somewhere, or just don't want to deal with it, we're simply an option. Lots of people will figure it out themselves, but if they don't want to worry about it...
Text TREE CU to (614) 585-9691 to arrange a time for pick up!

I think $15 if you come in and haul it out seems reasonable. Heck the pizza delivery guy gets $4.
I personally have gone fiber optic. :)

I've never been asked for any ID to drop off at the Ohio Mulch site in Hilliard, including this morning when I dropped off our tree. In fact, it's not unusual to see trailers full of yard waste there, which are obvious landscapers or other commercial interests. In the 5 or so times I've been there, there's never been any Ohio Mulch or other employee monitoring the drop site. Since someone is turning the stock over for a profit, I doubt they care who or how many of anything comes in as long is it can be mulched or composted.

Why do you need an ID to dispose of a tree? What kind of tax purposes?

My neighbors just put theirs on the side of the house.
At least I think they will.

There have been two dead christmas trees out there for a yeari guess that works... if you don't mind termites
Don't worry they have a old sofa a couple of broken chairs, a gas can and about 6 car radios also. Termites don't like car radios

I found this on my front door just now
This year my wife and I are training to participate in a Triathalon through team training and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We will be running in the St.Anthony's Triathalon in St. Petersberg Florida. The tiathalon consists of 1.5K swim, 40K bike and 10K run.
With yard waste collection services cut, I will be offering yard waste pick up. All money collected will be donated to our goal of raising $8.600 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Please call the number below to schedule pick up. Date of pickup s Saturday January 9. 2010. Fee schedule below. Thanks for you support.

Nice to see the entrepreneurial spirit is aline and well in Columbus!

I wouldnt doubt it costs the city a lot more per tree to get the job done.

I would do the lymphoma fundraiser option but here is another idea: go in with the neighbors on your block to rent a chipper and then you can use the mulch. I usually get stuff from Murray Rental but I didn't see "chipper" on their list so you'll have to look elsewhere.

I heard back from the guy Tenzo posted about and he said that he'd be willing to travel up to the North Clintonville area if I could get 2 more people interested. Anyone?

Anyone?Funny, I actually know this guy. Shawver's a good guy and very dedicated to the LLS triathalon and has been busting his ass to get the required donation together.
Personally, we had a scare with my daughter a few years ago where she spent her first birthday at Children's Hospital with fear that she might have Leukemia. Luckily for us, three transfusions brought her counts back to normal and she stayed healthy (6 years going). The follow-up visits to the children's oncology department that cleared her health gave left a lasting impression on us of all the kids that weren't as fortunate.
