Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner says close family friend Jim Tressel would be a welcome addition to the Browns organization.
CLEVELAND…..In his first extended interview since the firing of General Manager George Kokinis, Lerner has stated that his football organization needs a strong credible leader. Could he turn to OSU’s Jim Tressel as coach and possibly general manager to turn the organization around? Some insiders believe that it is a distinct possibility. Lerner has stated that he admires Jim Tressel not only as a coach but as a leader of young men. Tressel is a Berea native and part of a an Ohio coaching family tree that includes his father, legendary Baldwin Wallace coach, Lee Tressel. Tressel and his wife, Ellen, are frequent visitors to the Lerner’s Shaker Heights home when Lerner is in Cleveland and have been spotted in the owner’s suite in Browns stadium on more than one occasion this season.
I know these rumors have been out there since like day 1 but...
What do you guys think? Would Tress go?

What do you guys think? Would Tress go?I don't see it. Apparently Tress wants to teach following his stint at OSU.

Cleveland never has a good QB so I'm guessing Tress could help evaluate talent and get a good QB. Err...wait...nevermind.

This rumor seems to come up almost every year. I think Tress does well with student athletes because they so badly want to play to get noticed that they follow all the rules (most of the time)... when it comes to pros that don't have to follow any rules with media and the likes... it could get ugly.

hello all! new to CU, but I wanted to chime in on this- if tressel wants to watch his career die, he'll go to cleveland. if, however, he values his standing at osu and the legacy he's cultivated thus far, then he'll ride out his tenure here. cleveland is where athletic careers go to die...or where they are put in a holding pattern before going elsewhere to do better things.

These stories go on in every city. If Rich Rod was doing amazing at Michigan he would be rumored to take over the Loins...sorry, the Lions. If Joe Pa wasn't 612 years old he would have been rumored for the Steelers when Cowher left. Pete Carroll is always in those rumor circles. If the basketball team does good then you'll hear Matta's going to the Cavs. I'm a big UC fan so I used to hear this sort of stuff about Huggins every single year....just rumors.

Except Carroll did go to the pros at one point

Please Go, no. The Browns are bad enough without Tressel. He'd be a disaster.

Paul Brown coached at OSU. He did ok in the pros.

Paul Brown was also an innovator of the game. I'm not saying that Tressel is a bad college coach. But to compare him to Paul Brown? That's a stretch.

Ok, but really, all this Steeler talk is making me a bit sick to my stomach.
