Drove by the old Starbuck's spot at Poplar & High this morning and noticed that the for lease signs were gone and that a bunch of little signs reading "Le Chocoholique" (sp?) were up in the windows. Anybody have more info?

Was talking to someone with the CoC yesterday who mentioned a friend who had a chocolate shop somewhere else and really wanted a place in the SN. Maybe it's the same person. Didn't get the name of their other business though.

yea, just drove by. I can't believe that space sat that empty for that long. It's a prime location.
Also, and it's probably nothing, but I saw a backhoe next to the Ibiza site. It got me a little excited but it's probably all for nothing. (I know, I just had to bring up Ibiza. My sincere apologies.)

more F'ing Papyrus font! does nobody hire a designer anymore?

RE: papyrus font: Meh. Who cares? Anyplace with a name like this is likely to be pretty awesome.

I'm not a fan of Papyrus at all, although I'm cutting em some slack for the typographic faux pas and look forward to their opening. I'm sure someone is just anxious to announce their plans, went overboard and are more concerned about the chocolate.
The name is fun and they'll likely sell chocolate. Awesome.
On bitching about typography here, I'll vent for the sake of other business owners.
Another typographic and pseudo branding abuse that's spent is the all lower case font for logos with the 1. word 2. word or 3. word tagline statement.
Anyhow, some sickos out there evidently love Papyrus.
Interview with Papyrus creator, Chris Costello
Were there parameters or objectives to be met with the font? Or maybe just, "what was the inspiration for Papyrus?"
I took a calligraphy pen and some textured paper and just started drawing "old looking†alphabets in many different styles. I was thinking about the ancient Middle East and I then began writing words, dates and phrases from the history of that time in all upper case lettering. I soon came up with what I thought vernacular writing may have looked like if the English language existed 2000 years ago. It probably would have been written on papyrus and figured that would be the perfect name for the font. I then started drawing letters and numbers (about thirty examples of each character in the alphabet) until I felt like I had a unified font set, then picked the best one of each character. I added a lower case set thinking it would make the font more versatile and have a broader appeal.

Seeing as how I live above this, I will be eating there every. Day.

It sounds like a place to load up on chocolates and spirits. I'd be more than OK with this.

I've got no problem with the business. I wish them luck, (and new branding)

What is wrong with the font? I think I am missing something why would someone make an entire website dedicated to a font hate?
Posted 2 years ago # -
Just personal preference that a lot of people seem to have. Novelty fonts that get used for anything from beef packaging to massage clinic advertising just seems wrong.
maybe it's a designer thing.
on topic, yay chocolate.

ETA: Papyrus looks cheezy and lame, and whenever I see it used in a business logo, I get the feeling that the business owner is just half-assing things

I couldn't resist...
Is Papyrus the new Comic Sans?
Personally, when it comes to chocolate, I think the addition of the French twist is way overused, especially considering the cacao's roots aren't in France to start. I'd personally like to see more emphasis on the root cultures that the cacao is sourced from. Isn't it what the Mayan/Aztec's drank after a ritual human sacrifice? Can someone not find an interesting way to brand that?

I can see it now - "QUETZALCOATL's BLOODY-GOOD CHOCOLATE" "People are DYING for our sweet cravings"

Is Papyrus the new Comic Sans?Loved the designers mail to a potential client upon finding out that Papyrus was her "favourite font evar":
I will certainly steer you away from use of the font Papyrus as a primary typeface, even though you have expressed how much you like it, as it is extremely overused due to being too available to just about anyone with a computer these days. It simply does not convey professionalism or sophistication for a business at the level of yours. The organic quality of the font is not a bad thing - but the roughness of the letters contradicts what you try to achieve with an individual's personal appearance, especially when it comes to the look of better quality, smoother skin..
The key concepts being professionalism and sophistication.
I hope that this is just a paper sign hanging in the window as a placeholder until they get their final logos from their designers. hope springs eternal, anyway..
