So I got the call, my game is ready at midnight. Only question is if I'm more of a nerd to go pick it up at midnight, or not pick it up because that's past my bedtime.
Either way, this game looks amazing and can't wait to play it!

Anybody try this game out yet? It's been getting rave reviews. I'm going to pick it up after work. Just wanted to see anyone stayed up for the midnight release.
Grabbing a copy tonight :)
watch the first 15 minutes of gameplay here:
Putting in the disc in about 10 minutes after I finish installing Witcher 2 on my PC...I am pretty much not going outside for like 2 months.
Good news: The game is freaking awesome. Already.
Bad news: Can't actually get my pre-order bonus content because the PS store is still down. BOOOOOOO.
Isn't it spelled noir? Why is there an E at the end?
So far so good. Only played first 10 minutes but only thing I wanna do now is to leave work early to play this game.
Looks kind cool but my ADD would never allow me to play such a slow paced looking game.

It seems to be more of an interactive movie, a la Heavy Rain, rather than an action game. I guess some will have to curb their gaming tendencies when it comes to this game. Definitely not geared towards instant gratification, or catering to the shooter/Grand Theft Auto fans.
I don't know, I see the shooting taking a bigger and bigger role. The street crime events are pretty action oriented, for example.
Apparently this game and the latest update has caused some of the older Ps3 models to overheat and shut off. I have an older 40 gig ps3 and it could barely handle red dead redemption without getting extremely hot and freezing. Looks like I might have to sit this one out.
OK, now 4 hrs of gameplay in. I like the fact that it is very cinematic and definitely has that Police Quest type of investigative adventure feel to it. One thing that irks me a bit is the fact that it is very linear. It is open world but I don't see the motivation to do any of the sidequests since the main cases are much more intriguing.
Facial features during investigation is very well done. Graphics are just amazing except for occasional pop-ups. (I have PS3 version)

Those looking to delve more in the world of L.A. Noire maybe pleased to know that Rockstar has partnered with Mulholland Book to digitally release a compilation of short stories based the characters and case of the game. L.A. Noire: The Collected Stories will contain eight short stores written by authors Lawrence Block, Duane Swierczynski, Joe R. Lansdale, Jonathan Santlofer, Joyce Carol Oates, Francine Prose, Megan Abbott and Andrew Vachss with each story that expands upon the seedy underbelly of the L.A. Noire universe.
Some good authors on that list...
As good as L.A. Noire is...and its really good...The Witcher 2 has officially blown me away.
Probably the best RPG I've ever played.
Thanks for sharing that Andrew! Good read! ;)

You're welcome. I thought it was one of the most interesting game 'reviews' I had ever read. It also leads into some fascinating tangential thoughts about the nature of authenticity, how we (culture-wise) recreate our past and the limits of immersive technologies.
Alas, I probably won't get the game. I just don't ever make time to play and it ends up being money wasted.
