i will agree that they have some of the worst stores in the city, but they are still the best of the larger grocery stores that have locations in the inner city in my opinion. the prices are what motivate me to shop there. the one on s high near 270 has great deals on there organic food because noone buys it at that location. really its worth checking out and the drive.

honestly, i go to that kroger's often for the discounted steaks. they always have $5 t-bones there. nothing wrong with that at all!
you can find the best deals at the less popular chain grocery stores. i would definitely stay away from the short north / south campus kroger's however.

daniel wrote Kroger in general seems to still be stricken by grocery-as-commodity mentality, which doesn't win them any love
groceries are commodities dude. im not understanding that statement. what are groceries? trendy branding..... they can be i guess. thats not my idea.
Yo, Repo Man, do all of the products you buy have white labels and simply say things like "Food (Meat Flavored)" or "Beer" or "Drink" on them? If so, then I can see why you have no problems with K-rogers. Go ahead and pig out on those Tasteeos.
There are a lot of us who find that what we eat is important, who actually pay attention to the shenanigans of the companies that make said food (guess why Altria spun off Kraft, why Gerber swore off GMO ingredients, etc.), and who make choices about what to eat based on the effect said food's production has on the environment.
To quote Michael Pollan, "Eating is a political act." http://www.michaelpollan.com/omnivore.php
Oh, and you might want to make sure your next plate o' shrimp didn't contribute to the decline of some nation's mangroves.

Talk about pulling an old thread out of the cobwebs. ;-) At any rate, has anyone else noticed that they've started remodeling this store?
It doesn't appear to be anything on the scale of what's happening at N. High and King, though an extension of the streetwall beyond N. Broadway would be a nice change for this part of Clintonville. At the very least, it looks like this Kroger will finally be entering the 21st century.

More info on the remodel. Kroger will be closing the store at High and North Broadway Friday, July 29th at 9pm. It will be closed for 90 days. The pharmacy will be open throughout the entire remodel. They haven't been restocking lately, so the shelves and normal end caps and displays are thin. They have signs posted outside that state "open during remodel" but only during the initial phase. This store has been in need of this facelift for quite some time so I am thankful that they are getting it done. With grocery store margins as small as they are (I think I've heard 1-2%) it seems like a bad idea to completely close for so long.

Maybe it will have a new name when it reopens. ;)

Kroger High & north Broadway, what a great store.... @2thDoc i do however think that it closed because the short north Kroger opened, and since they are gutting the whole place that it had to shut down, i know we have all of there employees, what a great help, especially with the store being new, so far they are set to go back November, the store will be similar to the short north Kroger but smaller, can not wait to see what it looks like, i know the residents in the neighborhood can not wait for it to open.

Clinton-Como Neighborhood website:
Last winter, the community worked with Kroger on their plans for the remodel of the store at North High and North Broadway. Recently, I followed up with Kroger about the progress of that renovation.
The Grand Reopening of the Kroger store will be on November 10!
Among the upgrades made to the outside of the store are:
- New trellises to add detail to the southern elevation of the store
- New streetscaping along High Street
- Several new walkways to improve pedestrian access to the store
- Decorative fencing, a walkway and landscaping added to the corner of the property at the intersection of North High and North Broadway
Also, the landscape architect worked closely with members of the community to select native plants for use in the new landscape design.
Below is the reopening announcement from Kroger:
---------------------------------------------
Your new and improved neighborhood Kroger will be re-opening on Thursday, November 10! The recently expanded store will feature a new façade, native landscaping and beautiful décor; but the real treat is inside the front doors. The 39,000 square foot store contains a host of improvements, including a larger pharmacy, a brand new bistro and sushi area, and an enhanced bakery and produce department. The Kroger team worked hard to make sure the store represents the best of Clintonville. In fact, the landscape designer worked hand-in-hand with residents and the Clintonville Area Commission to design a pedestrian-friendly parking lot that features plants native to the community of Clintonville!
The store will be led by Store Manager Sara Littleton, who is excited to welcome the neighborhood back into the store. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to give Sara a call at: 614-263-1766.

Who was the landscape architect? The pedestrian connection at High and Broadway is a good idea.

Pablo, the landscape architect was Todd Foley at Faris Planning & Design. The new design for the corner is a big improvement.
As far as the plantings, both Faris and Kroger worked with members of the community on the final selection of plants. We went over the landscape plan in detail and identified where natives could be incorporated and/or substituted in place of non-natives from the original design.
Some examples:
- American Sycamore (PLATANUS OCCIDENTALLIS) used in place of Lacebark Elm
- Compact American Cranberry Viburnum (VIBURNUM TRILOBUM 'BAILEY COMPACTUM') used instead of European Cranberry Viburnum
- Ninebark (PHYSOCARPUS OPULIFOLIUS 'SEWARD') instead of Weigela Florida
Other natives being used in the landscaping are Black Chokeberry and a species of Serviceberry (Amelanchier laevis ‘Lustre’) which is native to Ohio.
There is quite a bit of interest in parts of Clintonville to restore native species to the existing landscape. The Kroger store is not within the boundary areas of the Lower Olentangy Urban Arboretum, but they were very interested in the work being done in South Clintonville and willing to help support those efforts by planting a number of native species as part of their store renovation project.

Clintonville Kroger Reopens Today
By: Walker
The newly renovated Clintonville Kroger will celebrate its grand reopening today. The store closed for remodeling back in July. The renovations have grown the store by an additional 1,600 square feet and updates have been made to the produce department, deli and the meat and seafood counters. The new Kroger also features additional U-Scan checkout stations.
