I drink it. We usually buy the local stuff from Kombucha Bob.
I make my own. It makes me feel good, it's easy and cheap, and it makes me feel in touch with my small amount of Russian heritage ;)
that stuff is gnarly, between the odor and the 'floaters'.
my wife lives by it, though. she's a lot healthier than me.
hey mana-tea, care to share your recipe? thanks! : o)
eta: blergh. i'm cool with yeast & bacteria in stuff like yogurt or sourdough, but there is something about a living mother pancake that creates a daughter pancake during fermentation that makes the skin under my nails retreat and my hair follicles contract. i don't think i could home brew this, it's kinda grody.
eta2: had some of the local stuff at the clintonville farmer's market a couple months ago. it was tasty, but might have to stick to buying it. egh. mother/daughter bacteria/yeast pancakes. shudder.

Better not think about yoghurt too much :-)
I'm not gonna say it's the most beautiful thing in the world.
But you know, neither are lion/gazelle chase scenes. They make nature work.
It's the cheapest way I know of to get lots of good critters living in you. And made with green tea and mixed half and half with ginger ale or apple juice, it's a pretty refreshing summer tonic in small amounts.
I only drink a few tablespoons a day unless I'm mixing it with something.
I've got too much of the stuff going at once now, so if you stop by the preserve I'll give you one of my cultures for free. Or you can get them through the mail.
It's like a pet! A slimy microcosmic world of a pet. :)
Cosmic Kombucha Bob is a great guy, I really love his flavors( blueberry and black cherry in particular). His original flavor is also great. Manatee, I drink 24-36oz daily. Why are you drinking such small amounts? There are lots of directions for making your own on the inter-webs, it really is quite easy. The hardest part is getting a starter culture, which Bob sells for $15-20 each. Hopefully he will give a class soon on home brewing.

I have known "Kombucha Bob" for soooo long. Let's just say we were mixed up in the crazy alternate universe known as Momentum 98, a really bizarre health-food store in Clintonville.
I drink small amounts because that's what works for me and my digestion. The batch I have now is way strong though, it might be able to peel barnacles off of a boat.
I hadn't heard of this stuff before this thread, now I really wanna pick some up and try it!
The folks at UAEA home brew a batch up now and then. I had a chance to sample it during the open house a few months ago and it was pretty decent. Then again I'm the same guy who actually sought the haggis out on the buffet line in Scotland.
I'm looking to make some kombucha, but i need a scoby. I have professional grade fermenting equipment, I just need a mushroom. Can anyone help a guy out?
I've got a batch going right now. When it finishes up and divides in a couple days, I would be happy to give you the daughter scoby. PM me and we can set up an exchange.
I wouldn't waste your professional grade fermenting equipment on kombucha. Mine lives in a 2 quart glass jar in the pantry with a coffee filter on top. Every once in a great while I get a little bit of mold and have to pitch a batch. 90%+ of the time the scoby is strong enough to keep anything else but its own cultures from growing.
Yes, sometimes---the stuff Bob makes and then sells at the Clintonville Community Market.
Neil House Brewery is making a kombucha beer. I liked it, but half of it geysered all over my kitchen.
