We are just starting a kitchen facelift and would like to get Ikea cabinets. We will require a little bit of custom work and was wondering if there is anyone out there that has experience installing Ikea cabinets?
Thanks.

I'm not looking for work but I have installed IKEA cabinets in two kitchens. Are you doing the rest DIY? I'd be happy to look over your plans and chat.
I'm in the process of remodeling, but my Ikea kitchen is complete. Installing Ikea cabinets couldn't be easier....I'd suggest using 2x4s as your base instead of the little plastic feet they give you.
Another crappy photo, but you get the idea:
I guess I'm looking for someone who is a good jack of all trades and not opposed to working with Ikea cabs - I'm finding some contractors/designers are not familiar with them. We're not changing the footprint of our kitchen but would like to replace all the cabs (kitchen is L shaped with an island) and add a range hood that ducts to the outside (range is located on an outside wall luckily). I also thinking of replacing the counter tops. Existing ones are granite which I'm not all that fond of and perhaps would like to replace with something else (maybe stainless) but all depends on the cost. If the cost is too excessive then I'll keep the granite but not sure how to manage that. Since the counter tops would have to be removed while the cabs are being installed, how is that done? Its an L shaped kitchen so two of the pieces are bonded together.
Mike - what kinds of counters are those?

Not sure what you're asking here. You're going to have to completely remove the old granite countertops and cabinets before anything goes in - I suggest inviting all your neighbors over to help you move the countertop -- they are EXTREMELY HEAVY and DANGEROUS (can't stress that enough!!). If you want to salvage the granite, I imagine you could assuming you don't break it while removing it (hopefully it's not glued to your existing cabinets. You could lay it in another room while you install the new cabinets. You won't need anything other than a level, a screw driver, 2x4's and some shims to install your ikea cabinets.
If you are uncomfortable doing the work, I'd suggest just assembling the Ikea cabinets yourself, and then have a contractor install them. They'll be a lot more comfortable once they see them assembled and realize they basically look like normal cabinets.

Zodiaq. It's basically like granite, but does not require re-sealing, and you can "supposedly" bleach and cut on it -- although I'm not exactly willing to try. I also had a extra 3cm edge laminated on it to make it appear thicker - unfortunately, not cheap.

I PMd a name to you.
We used a contractor to put in Ikea cabinets last summer, and they're very good for the price. DIY install is easy if you want, but our contractor figured a way to do it a little better than stock with some reinforcement on the cabinet backs.
As for the plastic feet, they let you do a great job of getting the cabinets evenly installed over uneven floors. Ikea cabinets are engineered very well to handle any reasonable load. There should be no need to replace those.
It's very hard to reuse the granite, but with the adjustable feet you might have a shot with the Ikea cabinets. Certainly you could probably reuse the granite in the island as it's not attached to the walls.
the engineered stones are fantastic. you should def hire an installer to remove and or re purpose your granite. you will destroy the edges around the seams and chip the granite if not done correctly. granite weights on average about 22lbs per sqft at 3cm, can be very dangerous to move. if i wasn't so slammed i would take a look at your project. i do have lots of competent subs too send me pm if interested.
I might be interested in buying your old stuff from you as well to help finance the project. I have a Licking County place that needs cabinets.
Has anyone else heard that IKEA has been sniffing around Morse and Stelzer??

Mike - what Ikea model are those cabs? They look like Adel but I've never seen that model offered in such a dark color.
Thanks,
Kevin.
I don't recall the exact name but Nexus brown-black sounds familiar. I know it's the brown-black color with the raised panel design.
