I did the spray bottle thing with my cats and it worked ok....although I'm sure they are having parties on the counters when I'm not home. Kind of threw in the towel on that one. Just try to keep the counters as clean as I can.

I had a similar problem and my vet's cat whisperer recommended the "Scat Mat"
It looks like a car floor mat that packs a static electric force field. The large dog setting will blow a cat across the room so follow the instructions carefully. The cat is now firmly convinced the counter tried to kill it and won't get within ten feet of it. The instructions also recommend additional "conditioning" if the cat forgets that something tried to kill it. And the cat still likes me because the counter tried to kill and not me. Also works on house guests.Posted 2 years ago # -
I use a nerf rocket launcher to keep my kitties under control. It works on friends too!

I have a 120G saltwater aquarium across the room, so I would be hesitant to use anything that propels unknown chemicals (scents) across the room. Other than that though, it seems like a very good idea.
I will look into this Scat Mat ... name sounds dirty, but if it works I'll look past it. ;)
