Much has been said about Kasich's proposal to entering into partnership with companies on new toll roads in Ohio.
Some have the erroneous belief that he is planning on making 71, 70 or 75 toll roads. That is not possible as that is against federal laws. A state can not turn an existing free highway into a toll road after accepting federal funds to build it and maintain it.
Kasich is talking about new roads that ODOT has had on their books for years but does not have the money for and will not ever, but the need is there.
The following toll roads are being looked at and considered.
The Woody Hayes Thruway a connecting 4 lane highway from I-71 just north of Polaris to US 23 just north of Delaware.
The John Glenn Thruway - completion of US 22 from Zanesville to Steubenville and on into Pittsburgh. Shaves roughly 1/2 hour off the drive to Pittsburgh from Columbus.
The Neil Armstrong Thruway - Finishes US 33 to a 4 lane highway to the Indiana Border and Fort Wayne.
The James Rhodes Thruway - Finishes US 30 from Canton, Ohio to East Liverpool and on into Pittsburgh.
Cost to drive on any the roads is estimated at 10 cents per mile for a car.
