Was there today!! He is still there and still the great selection. By all means support him!
Yes, please support him. Jon was telling me today that he has 100 some varieties of tomato, and plenty of stock of each variety - more variety than he usually has, and more stock, too. So much stock, that he will likely plant them and sell their delicious fruits. He's particularly proud of the Brandywine collection, some of which will smack you in your face with acidity, a characteristic Jon enjoys.
Some of the plants I purchased were Russian Crim, Russian grape, Sunburst tomato, a few Yellow pear, a few green zebra, a few I can't remember and some long cayenne. No Bhut Jolokia for me!
Sometime in August, Jon is planning a Tomato Tasting on greenhouse grounds, some 100 or so types of tomato! An event he has hosted before, and was very well received, and looks forward to the 2011 tasting. When I get more details on date and time, I'll post them on CU.
In addition to tomatoes, he has a variety of other fruit, vegetable (including the Bhut Jolokia pepper) and herbs that are "not too late" to be planted, with lots of growth potential in the next few months. An excess of green tomatoes in October is a welcomed Fall harvest to me - fried green tomatoes, green tomato pie, BLGT, Cambodian green tomato stew, etc. make me smile.
If you want to meet a really nice guy, and stock up on some great plants, head south on Parsons and visit Jon Fisher Greenhouse. Thanks, Rachel, for posting this original thread.
