Movember is the world’s largest charity event raising funds for cancer affecting men, specifically prostate cancer. Each November, Movember invites men across the globe to grow moustaches (or “Mosâ€Â) while raising funds and awareness for men’s health. Movember aims to forever change the face of men’s health, by raising awareness and funds that will reduce the number of preventable male deaths by cancer.
Each Movember, men are challenged to start the month clean-shaven and grow a moustache. The moustache becomes the hairy ribbon for men’s health and the guys growing them become a walking billboard for 30 days.
Participation in Movember is not only fun, but simple. Men and women can register to join the campaign at http://www.Movember.com. Whether on their own or as part of a team, they have the month of November to grow and show their “Moâ€Â. Friends, family, and colleagues can show their support by sponsoring the Mo-growing efforts and donating funds to support the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG. Women who register to join the campaign act as ambassadors for the “Mo,†spreading the word and showing their support for the men in their life.
“I feel honored to help raise awareness for this important cancer-fighting campaign in Central Ohio,†said Eric Sagun, a member of the Movember Steering Committee in Columbus. He added, “Columbus has a rich history of supporting cancer research - we’re thrilled to continue the fight and with this ‘stache-tastic campaign. Look for fun events and moustache surprises throughout the month.â€Â
The Columbus efforts include a 7:00 PM kick-off party at Meister’s Bar in Grandview on Monday, November 1, and on Friday, November 19, a 9:00 PM concert event headlined by Karate Coyote at KOBO. Additional events will be announced in the coming days.
This November will mark the 4th Movember campaign in the US. In 2009, over 28,000 men grew moustaches to raise more than $3.2 million for the beneficiary partners.
