What does this mean for Denise's in S. Clintonville?

I love this line in the article, "Of course, this being Clintonville, there was some carping about parking."
Not mincing words :)
How long until Jeni's opens up on the South Side?

Will have some more details posted about both the Clintonville & Powell locations in about 2 weeks. Sat down with Jeni & Charly for an interview and they've got some fun stories to tell. ;)

What does this mean for Denise's in S. Clintonville?I don't think it will have much of an impact. Jeni's and Denise's serve very different styles of ice cream (the whole Salty/Salted Carmel thing aside) and the locations are two miles apart. There's already a Jeni's three miles away from Denise's, which hasn't had much of an impact. The impression that I get is most of Denise's business comes from people who walk there, and I think that the new Jeni's is far enough away that it won't impact that much.
And as someone who lives right between the two, I can't wait to have two great ice cream places to walk to.

Double scoop of Jeni's
Two more ice-cream shops to open in September as part of careful expansion plan

BY DENISE TROWBRIDGE
FOR THE COLUMBUS DISPATCHSome ice-cream fans will soon have a much shorter trip to buy a scoop of their favorite flavor of Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams.
The Columbus-based artisan ice cream maker is opening two stores in September, at 8 N. Liberty St. in Powell and 4247 N. High St. in Clintonville. They will join the other five Jeni's, located in the North Market, Bexley, Dublin, the Short North and Grandview Heights.
But this is not your typical expansion story.
"Usually, when a company expands, it becomes less unique. For us, it's the opposite," said Jeni Britton Bauer. She, along with husband Charly Bauer, founded Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams in 2002.
"We have the chance to become more artisan as we grow," Bauer said, "because we can try to make exclusive agreements with suppliers. We can begin to buy entire fields of produce and, in some cases, ask suppliers to plant certain varieties."
The grand plan doesn't stop with the two soon-to-open stores. Bauer said she wants Jeni's to be the "best artisan ice cream in America."

I see a big Jeni's gap in the UA area, say around Kingsdale to Henderson.

Clintonville is big enough for both. Should be a good addition.

I see a big Jeni's gap in the UA area, say around Kingsdale to Henderson.Jeni's seems to target walkable urban areas to open their stores. Even Dublin and Powell have their respect stores in their old original downtowns. By that logic the only area in UA that would make the cut would be around Jones Middle School (The Mallway).
Of course these are just my observations though.

Press Release:
From Cow to Clintonville: Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams to Open Sixth Shop in Central Ohio
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams is proud to announce the opening of its sixth shop in central Ohio at 4247 N. High St. in Clintonville. Doors will open for business at noon Friday Oct. 1.
Located two doors north of another locally owned and operated Columbus business, Northstar Café, the newest Jeni’s shop features an array of unique, handcrafted ice creams, serves expertly roasted coffee by Columbus-based Stauf’s Coffee Roasters and -- for the first time -- features an elegant sundae bar. Accentuated by reclaimed wood from a century-old Knox County, Ohio, barn, the new sundae bar is a comfortable spot to watch as Jeni’s delicious signature sundaes are prepared and served right in front of you.
Jeni Britton-Bauer, who founded Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams in 2002 in the North Market, has wanted to open a shop in Clintonville for a long time. “Clintonville is such a special part of Columbus,†Britton-Bauer said. “We love the people of Clintonville and are so excited to be part of the neighborhood. I hope, in some small way, we’ll be able to help contribute to the rich heritage of the community there. We’d love to see this area become Clintonville’s ‘Main Street’.â€Â
Designed by Gieseke Rosenthal Architecture & Design and constructed by Sullivan Builders, with hands-on input from Britton-Bauer, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams’ Clintonville shop joins a family of parlors that includes locations in the North Market, the Short North, Bexley, Grandview Heights and Dublin. All Jeni’s shops serve handmade sundaes and parfaits, but only the newest location includes a sundae bar where customers can linger at a gorgeous marble-topped counter that boasts a façade of wood tile hewn from cross sections of storied oak beams.
Matthew O. Sullivan, of Sullivan Builders, Jeni’s exclusive General Contractor, acquired the historic building materials from a Gambier, Ohio, carpenter and historic house restoration specialist (and Presbyterian minister) who inherited the beams from a family that operates a sanctuary for injured animals on a farm in Knox County.
“The beams were leftovers from the reconstruction of 100-year-old barn just off Route 62 that was partially rebuilt after a storm a few years ago,†Sullivan said. “We struck a deal with family for the leftover beams them over glasses of root beer. Jeni’s new shop is the embodiment of country living and recycling united in modern design here in the city.â€Â
Plans to bring Jeni’s to Clintonville came to fruition early last year when Jeni’s partnered exclusively with Snowville Creamery in Southeast Ohio. Snowville, which milks grass-fed cows that graze pastureland on a small family farm in Meigs County (near Athens), delivers milk and cream to Jeni’s within 48 hours of processing.
“Our special, symbiotic relationship keeps us both in business,†Britton-Bauer said. “Warren always has extra cream leftover from his milk operation; we buy all of that and more to make our ice cream. Our partnership with Snowville is one of our most cherished, respected relationships that we have. It is built on trust, on hard work and on a lot of passion. It allows the people of Ohio and beyond to have natural, clean and humanely cultivated milk -- and to enjoy the ultimate pleasures of ice creams made with the most flavorful cream.â€Â

I am so happy for Jeni's success and give praise for her ethics in her food production.
Thanks to CU for introducing me to this wonderful treat. I had only started reading here earlier this year and had not heard of her ice cream before since I haven't been in the area for some time. Although I've since found it is available in my region, I just wish it was more convenient for me to purchase some pints! I always make sure to get some when I'm in town.
Everything in Jeni's is real and wholesome and the most delicious flavors I've ever tasted. A true culinary artist and definitely the best ice cream.
