To commemorate Cervical Awareness Month (January), Kafe Kerouac will be raising money for Grounds for Health, a non-profit that establishes cervical cancer prevention programs in coffee-growing communities. As a small independent coffee shop, we care about the farmers at the other end of the supply chain. We recognize that poor women in the Global South where most our coffee is grown are at an extreme disadvantage when it comes to accessing quality health care. Please join us in supporting coffee growers by making a donation today.
Coffee-growing countries are among the poorest in the world, where women have little or no access to health care. Because of this lack of access, cervical cancer is the leading cause of cancer death for women in these regions, despite the fact that it is 100% preventable when detected early.
You can help Kafe Kerouac & Grounds for Health reach women who would normally have no access to these critical health services by making a donation today!
Women in coffee growing regions are no more susceptible to the disease than women in the United States; they simply do not have access to screening and treatment due in large part to crippling poverty. In an effort to be more accountable to these coffee growers, Kafe Kerouac has also teamed up with Just Coffee Cooperative to offer our customers 100% worker-owned, fair trade, and organic coffee. We currently offer two blends - Solidarity Roast & Runners High – in 1lb bags and we’ll be donating a portion of sales from these roasts back to Grounds For Health. To purchase your bag of Just Coffee stop by the shop and look for the display!
To ensure that we meet our goal to raise $500 we’re counting on you, our customers. We need 30 people to donate $5, 15 people to donate $10, 4 people to make a donation of $25, and 2 people to donate $50. Any amount that is meaningful to you will help support women in coffee growing communities. Please give at whatever level you can.
Grounds for Health is directly accountable to the local coffee growers and only starts a health campaign after a formal invitation from a coffee-growing co-operative. You can learn more about GFH and see their whole step-by-step model here.
Your donation really does make a difference.
Thanks to caring people like you, Grounds for Health has screened more than 19,000 women for cervical cancer in Latin America and Tanzania. Making an online donation and purchasing fair trade Just Coffee are great ways for Kerouac coffee-drinkers to help Grounds for Health reach more women in coffee-growing regions. Please make a donation today.
Sincerely,
The Kerouac Crew
