I don't drink and I'm not really into the club scene, so I was wondering if anyone knew of anything that people can do that doesn't involve either of those.
I've been thinking of the Shadowbox, but I'd still like to hear what suggestions other people may have.

Is there anything to do that doesn't involve drinking alcohol or clubbing?

What kinds of things are you interested in?
There's a LOT to do in Columbus that doesn't revolve around drinking & clubbing. Really too much to just start naming off random things without knowing what you're into.
Shadowbox is a personal favorite of mine, so I'd definitely support that one, but there's quite a few other theaters and troupes - MadLab, Raconteur, Available Light, CATCO, etc. There's the Funny Bone, 2 Dave & Busters locations, live music playing ALL over the place, like 37 different "young professionals" organizations that do events, heck even COSI has occasional evening adult-oriented events.
It's all out there - what are you in the mood for?

Check the university for events.
You dont have to be a student to go.Although I don't recomend it unless you are willing to make a commitment. Having a dog keeps me busy. Gets me out of the house three times a day. And it's a Great way to meet girls. I can't tell you the number of girls who have hit on me because of my dog.
Volunteering is also a way to do stuff that makes you feel better physically and mentally. I find the caliber of people that I meet when doing volunteer work to be pretty high. Habitat for humanity is just kicking off for the year and is a good way to learn skills.
Join a sports team (although there is often drinking after) or a sports club. Or join the RPAC and work out.
I went from the drinking scene to the sober scene pretty fast. Trust me, the sober scene is a LOT more fun and so are the people you meet.

It really does depend on what sort of things you're into.
For example, I gave up on most music years ago, so the local music scene is lost on me. On the other hand, meeting up with the gang at a coffee shop or restaurant is a fun time.

I just got an e-mail this morning from the Idea Foundary about a bunch of classes. It's a place where you pay by class or buy a membership and you have access to tons of really cool tools and a place to work. I think it's a really cool concept, see if it interests you.
Tenzo- I still need to figure how to pick up girls with my dog lol

I'm probably not a very good person to advise on this because I do like the drinkies, BUT...Columbus is a great city for eating...round up a group of friends for foodie adventuring. Check out the taco trucks Columbus blog and the new alt eats blog and maybe look into some Slow Foods Columbus events...group cooking classes at the North Market perhaps?
Sorry I can't post links, the computer at the office I'm at today is painfully slow and stupid...but if you google, those blogs and webpages will come right up. Swearsies.Posted 2 years ago # -

If you have a bike, we have a great and growing trail network that'll get you to all parts of the city. Plus several social rides throughout the week, including the Tuesday Night Ride from Goodale Park and the Sunday Night Ladies Ride.

Live. Music.
It's not lame. Alot of it is free. And you won't feel like you're 90 years old when you're done.

I do +1 the live music thing...just depends if you're ok with being in a bar atmosphere given the whole not drinking thing. Although there are certainly music events that happen outside of bars, but not nearly as many. Definitely keep an eye out for the Goodale Summer Concert Series though. And of course there's the Parking Lot Blowout and Independent's Day. OH and if you like art, check out Junctionview's website for their art events. Agora is coming up soon!

Thanks for the suggestions all.
I almost forgot that I made this thread lolPosted 2 years ago # -
Tenzo- I still need to figure how to pick up girls with my dog lol
1)Take your well behaved dog to a dog park.
2)When your dog sniffs the butt of another dog, ask the cute girl what kind of dog she has (these two actions are roughly equivalent)
3) Ask questions about her dog / breed for about 5-10 minutes
4) after about 10 minutes of banter. Act suddenly surprised and say; "I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself, I'm Rastapasta" and stick out your hand. You may now change the conversation to asking about her. How often she comes, where she lives......
you should be able to bring it home from here.
If it's a hard sell, just show up a few times when you know she will be there and when she comes by wave her over.
You are now friends!Suggest an outing with the dogs. try and end up a restaurant that is tolerant of dogs on the patio. (North Star, etc.)
You are now dating!Suggest a nicer place that you, unfortunately, can not bring dogs to.
Repeat three times.
Go to her house to check on the dog
Close.(disclaimer: your number of encounters before close may vary. If it takes longger than above see: 'she is not that into you'.)

"I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself, I'm Rastapasta" and stick out your hand.
Way to bring out the lulz on a Friday morning. It's gonna be a great day.
This thread has now earned a "dating" tag.

That just might change my whole stance on the "not a dog person" thing.
Posted 2 years ago # -
hey theres another tag that doesn't involve drinking or clubbing!

Best pickup line I have come up with, ever;
"Domani mi unisco al seminario e non ho mai sentito il tocco di una donna."
Told in many a bar in Florence on the night before my wedding.
Unfortunatly, it doesn't qualify for the OP's needs, as it involved many (many many many) free drinks.

Should you adjust your strategy if your dog is sniffing the cute girls butt instead of a dog? Or is that a warning?

HAhahaha... Tenzo, you're on fire.
