Just saw this headline on Dispatch.com: Analysis: Folksy Palin charms; seasoned Biden shines (link: http://www.dispatchpolitics.com/live/content/national_world/stories/2008/10/03/copy/veep_analysis.ART_ART_10-03-08_A1_OKBGFES.html?adsec=politics&sid=101
was anyone charmed? I really am curious. I'm not saying "are you charmed enough to buy her a drink," I'm saying "are you charmed enough for her to be one skipped heartbeat away from being president"?
enlighten me, please. Sometime within the next 12 hours, I fully expect my father to call me and tell me how wonderful she is. yikes.

I am scared by these statements in the coverage, because the debates are not a beauty pageant:
"Biden, as expected, displayed his customary grasp of weighty international and domestic issues, and appeared to win the debate on points. But Palin, except for getting the name wrong of the U.S. commanding general in Afghanistan, at least showed that she is a reasonably quick study.
She avoided any major gaffes, often dodging direct answers to questions and adroitly steering the topic to areas she was more comfortable with -- her record as governor of Alaska, taxes and greater oil exploration."
Really? Adroitly? Is there something I don't understand about how debates are supposed to work?

I thought she "spoke well", but as Chris Rock once said, that's a compliment you give to a retarded kid....not the VP of the USA.

I think the maverick count was six. It got old after two.

Luckily I participated in a viewing party last night with a group of close friends. This kept damage away from my friends' High-Def television. We were able to vent our frustrations to one another in a more civil, less expensive manner.

I suppose she really NEEDED to come across as charming since she wasn't going to come across as knowledgeable. Maybe that was to make us feel like Biden's showing was the emotional equivalent of shooting corner bunnies rabbits.
Shooting wolves from an airplane, on the other hand, is another story.
