After yet another championship run squashed, do you think this year’s loss cements King James’ walking paper? And what do you think a LeBron exit would do to/for the city of Cleveland?

Yes, I think he's gone. These guys are going to be crushed:

does the pope shit in the woods?

Are you implying that the pope will be ousted after a shitting in the woods controversy and LeBron will become the next pope? Because that's probably still more likely than him wearing a Cavs jersey next year.

I think he'll renew for three years and bolt to Brooklyn when the Nets are a go.

Everybody else seems to have left Cleveland. So yeah, he's probably gone.
As for what it will do to the city of Cleveland, the hastily made Cleveland tourism video (2nd attempt) claimed that Cleveland's economy is based on LeBron James. Based on that data source, I predict economic collapse and cannibalism.

Now that Dan Gilbert has certain near-future casino cash flow, I think he'll make a concerted effort to keep LeBron in Cleveland. I also wonder if LeBron will want to leave town a loser, but OTOH, he may forget about the lack of a championship TEAM and focus on becoming THE CHAMPION FREE-AGENT and go where the biggest dollars are offered. So if you're a Cavs fan, hope that Gilbert is looking at a lot of casino profits b/c he'll need them to keep LeBron.
Maybe Cleveland should cut its losses by giving up on the Cavs and forget about major league sports in general and focus on Arts, its universities and museums, Lake Erie, brew pubs, med centers, and ethnic festivals.

I think he's gone. I would like him to stay, but I understand him wanting to leave. Thankful that Cleveland and the state of Ohio got him for 7 years, and wish him luck.
Very frustrating to watch the Cavs the last couple of years. Such great regular seasons followed by maddening playoff losses.

He's going to get the biggest offer from Cleveland. The NBA is structed so that a player's current team is able to offer a free agent more money than any of the other teams bidding on their services. This is done so that teams don't just have draft picks play a few years and then leave.
But LeBron will likely see even more money and branding potential from being in LA or NYC.

It's sad that that is what the game has come to....the amount of money and celebrity exposure one can get. What ever happened to playing the game for the love of it. Hey Lebron. You are not a movie star. You are a professional basketball player. Act like it.
Another thing that really pissed me off over the past couple of seasons is the amount of showboating before the games. These guys are dancing around and throwing chalk in the air (he even did the chalk routine at away games!?!) If you're going to act like you're the best team and player in the league, then damnit be prepared to come to the court and prove it. Then you can dance around all you want.

I think he owes it to Cleveland to stay (at least for 3 or 4 years) after his dismal performance against the Celtics. The Cavs advancement in the playoffs has been regressing the past 3 or 4 years. WTF!
The Cavs can and will offer him more money than any other team can. But LeBron's real earning potential is through endorsements. He can make much more money through endorsements in New York, especially if he can lead the Knicks or Nets to a championship. NY is a global media center whereas Cleveland not so much.
Dispatch columnist Bob Hunter broke down the money aspect recently. LeBron might take a low player salary so his team has more money to surround him with best players available so he'll get his championship and the hundreds of millions that would follow a ring.

Local stuff? He already has huge endorsement deals with the larger companies, and is the 1st or 2nd best selling jersey. And probably the leagues most popular player.

The whole tie between NYC or any larger market and endorsements is overblown. There are articles on ESPN, CNNsi and other places that address it. In today's media market it's not like only people in northeastern Ohio are following James and aware of his daily performance and stats.
Here is an article from Bloomberg as an example:
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601079&sid=aH7fH5UpwgQYHe already ranks #1 in the NBA in terms of endorsements with McDonald's, Nike, Coke and State Farm; his jersey sells #2 behind Kobe; he already appears on Letterman regularly; he's been animated on the Simpson's and Spongebob; and he's hosted SNL. It's not going to get too much bigger by simply playing for the Knicks.

LeBron James possibly leaving Cleveland is one thing I am prepared to be in denial about for a very long time, possibly forever.
:(

It's hard to know who to believe regarding earning potential. Bob Hunter quotes several sports agents who seem to know what they are talking about who say he can make a lot more in NYC.
Cleveland needs us to scrap WTO, NAFTA, GATT, etc and bring back its manufacturing base a million times more than it needs to rest its collective ego on what uniform an athlete wants to wear.

Darren Rovell is an authority on the business of sports. In this article he seems to think that the whole NYC means more endorsements dollars mindset is a myth.

Why does everyone assume that he would go to either LA or NY? The Knicks are horrible and I don't think the Lakers wouldn't be a good fit for him since him and Kobe would be competing for the spotlight the whole time. I say his best bet to head to Chicago where he would round out the team nicely. Hell, it was good enough for Jordan. Also his elbow injury is most likely from dunking too much. Quit showboating and be a consistent scorer.

If winning a championship is his goal, as he says, I don't see why he would choose to stay in Cleveland. They are severely hampered cap-wise which limits their ability to improve, and the last two years are evidence that the core of the team is not good enough to get the job done. I've seen mention of him possibly looking at Chicago, and I can see why that would be an attractive situation. Position by position the current Bulls lineup would be an upgrade over the Cavs.

He is gone. Compare the effort last night to the super LeBron effort of 2007 ecf with Detroit. He was either hurt or he gave up last night, how many breaks did he slow down? When super LeBron wants to win he finishes at the rim, did not see that last night.
Celtics played good defense.
Who is the 2nd best player on the team? Mo? Shaq?
When was the last time an NBA championship was won with a 3 as the best player?Posted 2 years ago # -
