We, are now allowed to get a new Iphone instead of a blackberry for work. I really want to switch, but I was just wondering if there is anything I should know about the Iphone or ATT in general. How are internet speeds compared to sprint? Can you teather the Iphone with your laptop, and use it as a modem? Any dislikes you guys have of the iphone? All I will use it for is corp email, phone, mp3s and sometimes web browsing.

I love mine and it was very easy to apply it to my work email.
you say that's all you want it for... just wait till you open the apps store. Only problem I have is the battery life is not that great. (which you can help if you you turn off the 3g)

It really is a personal preference. I love my iPhone, but you maybe more productive with a Blackberry for work due to some shortcomings with it's exchange syncing (and lack of physcial keyboard).
PM me if you want more info, we've been dealing with it at work quite a bit for the last month or so.

what problems are you having with the echange syncing? It seems flawless here at OSU.
also yes the keyboard sucked for a few days, but I got the hang of it and can type just as fast as I could on my old phone.
I am far far far from an apply fan-boi (this is the first apple product I have purchased since my 2e) but I am very impressed with it so far.

There's was an app in the app store and then removed that allowed this functionality, but alas, has not returned. I think there's a hacky way to do it otherwise.

No actual problems setting it up, just limitations with the iPhone software.
Stuff like:
Creating meeting requests
Creating certain re-currences
Deleting a message when the radio is off
Marking multiple items read/unread
Setting up email filters
Setting up Out of Office
Email search
You can do all those on the Blackberry, but not on the iPhone. A lot of people won't care about those features, but some do. All of these are easily fixable methinks, so maybe Apple will step up to the plate in the near future.
And +1 to the predictive text, it is awesome. Some people just aren't willing to give it a chance though.
Also my first Apple purchase since IIe!

Looks great then, most of those items I do not care about, and the 1 or 2 that I do, i can live without. Using the phone as a modem, would be more of a luxury for personal use, and not a necessity, so if there is a hacked program that would do. Do you guys think it is worth spending the extra money for the 16gb? This will be my first apple product ever, I have not even owned an ipod before. Can I load it with xvid or h264 content that is not purchased from apple to watch on the bus?

EDIT: As long as you have video formatted in this fashion, it doesn't need to be bought from iTunes.

I didn't know the iPhone couldn't do this. That's a big gaping hole for corporate users.

Yeah, you can accept requests, but not create.

I went ahead and splurged. It's not like you can add more later when you need it.

Sweet, my boss just got back to me, as I am on vacation right now, and I got great news. When I came over to my company about a year ago, I already had a blackberry with sprint. The company uses ATT for their corporate service, so I had just requested them to reimburse me for my phone bill every month, and just had autochecking of my pop3 on, and not the corporate email service. So I had placed a call to my boss about getting an iphone, and she was going to ask our managing director for me. Turns out they will pay for a new phone through ATT up to 250 dollars every 2 years, plus reimburse for your service of course. All I have to pay is $45 bucks. I am headed to the ATT store right now, should have an iphone in an hour.

Not meaning to sound like an Apple fanboy but I'm really loving the new iPhone and I haven't even scratched the surface yet. The Facebook application is the only one I've installed. The touch keyboard took a few days to get used too, but it's smooth sailing now.
Its a good phone.

You have more Apple products than anyone I've ever met. And I'm not including the picture of Steve Jobs that you have on the nightstand! :)
