I didn't realize that CD101 was so low. No wonder their signal sucks. I don't know if an increase is possible at any given frequency or if position of other stations matter. At any rate, 15KW isn't much. I wonder if they can pick up the signal in their own building. lol

More of a signal-related question than a muffled audio question, but why do I have so much trouble receiving a static-free signal at my workplace in Grandview/Marble Cliff?
The radio I'm using has an antenna, picks up stations such as 97.1, 97.9, 99.7, and 96.3 very clearly (just the local FM's I've tried)...for some reason 102.5 has so much static, sometimes I can tolerate it but usually I can't. Anyone else having this problem?
I found this footprint map but personally don't agree with it:
http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WWCD&service=FM&status=L&hours=U
Any chance the muffled audio problem is also weakening the signal output as well? Streaming in the workplace is out of the question for me, so this is pretty frustrating. The problem with grandview/marblecliff is the interference from the row of nearby transmitters. The FM towers (99.7, 96.3, etc...) down there can interfere in two ways:
1) If you're close enough they simply overload your receiver and you have trouble picking up any but the very strongest signals. Some radios have a setting to knock down the sensitivity to help with this.
2) Transmitters transmit a very little bit on frequencies near and harmonically related to their main frequency. If you are very near a powerful transmitter site, that "spatter" can be strong enough to interfere with a more distant signal. The selectivity of some radios, (the ability to differentiate two signals) is poor and makes them more prone to this.
#2 is the problem I have at my house. the spatter from 99.7 overrides 102.5 on all but my best (most selective) receiver. Some radios just don't have the selectivity to work around the interference. Some do, but you have to be careful with antenna orientation.
Their 15 kw signal is plenty strong enough to cover the area... except for pockets of interference, which are numerous in the grandview/downtown area.

I've been able to experimentally cover an entire city block with less than half a watt. But that was a long time ago.

I was messing with this and then I realized that streaming from the internet was crystal clear. I guess the beat goes on...
the internet saved the radio star.

Business First is reporting that CD101 is moving out of the Worly Building when their current lease runs out. Shadowbox Live will need some of CD101's space once they start to move into their new performance area this summer.
Some of the radio industry smartypantses over at Radio-Info.com are speculating that it could signal the beginning of the end of CD101/CD1025. I know their current office staff much smaller than it was when they moved into the Worly space, so there's no reason they need to hold on to all that square footage, no matter how cool it looks. The Big Room, on the other hand, might be too valuable for the station as a promotional tool for them to give up even if it means paying for an extra 800 square feet or whatever of open space.
I'd like to see them work something out with Promowest to include an air studio space at The LC, or I'm sure NBC 4 wouldn't mind giving up their seldom-used Broad Street studio. Or maybe they can continue the shuffle with WOSU and take over some space at COSI.
Where should CD101 move?

I think Walker said it earlier, but the Arena District (Park St.) seems similar to what they had in the BD in '96.

Where should CD101 move?It seems like they probably picked the BD location back in the day because of the exposure to that nightlife crowd/demographic. I wonder if that's as important anymore. It seems like CD101 has a pretty good presence at events with their mobile ice cream truck setup and other types of things along those lines.
If the Big Room was an important part (financially and promotionally?) then I'd prefer to see them grab one of the empty old nightlife venues Downtown and do a combo event space / office space. Maybe the old Long Street Complex (or a portion of it?). Maybe the old Static/Fahrenheit space (if the fire damage wasn't too bad?) Maybe the old James Club 88 space?
Just total speculation though. I'm not sure what sort of financial or logistic considerations are appropriate for a move for them.

Looks like CD101 is, indeed, moving--to the Swiss Chalet Party House on South Front Street.

I think the new location will work out well for them!

CD101's sound quality is still crap. It used to be my default station, but not anymore. The longer their sound quality sucks, the less I listen to them. Are they not aware that they're losing listeners or don't they care? Are they doing anything about it? Does anyone have any new info?

I was hoping there was some new info other than "We're looking into it." It's hard to believe a radio station would let their sound quality suck for so long.
