Illuminated Art Experience is a project to create experiential art. That is, art as an experience, as the name would suggest, making it easy for people to become immersed in it, truly experiencing the artistic expression. This project is intended to provide a non threatening environment to make it easy for everyone to engage. These environments will hopefully open the attendees up to raw expression and new perspectives, concepts vital to all art in general. It is also a challenge to artists to break themselves of the pretentions and elitism of the art world and create something truly meaningful that isn't necessarily meant to sell. In fact the idea of commercial art goes entirely against the concepts on which this project was based on. To put it bluntly, art following rules is hollow and art so aloof you can't understand it is pointless.
The illuminated art experience really wants to give something to you and lose all the pretentious insanity that surrounds art.

Great event! Both Lunar Solar and Pavlo produce great electronic music and Ben is a great artist.

This event should be the shit! In the future it will only get better with the addition of new artists and mediums. Hats off to ben for this one. I hope the concept grabs people by the nuts.
BTW walker you need to come up with another lame response to awesome event posts. The whole "this sounds like a cool event" statement is getting annoying. Pepole bust ass to come up with new spaces, music, art, and ideas. Meanwhile you reduce it down to some lame common denominator with your standard seal of half approval. Respect what people bring you becouse we are your websites content.

Seriously though, I have a lot of respect for anyone putting their hearts into any sort of event or project like this one Pavlo is doing. With my schedule permitting, I'll be there to check it out, and even if I'm not able to go I sincerely hope this post will show it off to dozens of other people who may not have previously heard about it and get them to go too.
There are a lot of events that people post (read the Live Music & Band thread) that pass their scheduled dates with zero comments and fade into obscurity. Consider my abbreviated replies to be a "bump" instead of sign of disrespect.
Foolish of me to assume that my providing a place for people to promote their events was respect enough for the people who do these shows. I guess now I have to type up a long ego stroking reply as well, or else I'm just spitting in their collective faces.
And Pavlo... a thousand apologies for me simply calling your event "interesting". I think it will be both off the proverbial hook and chain, a hundred faces will get rocked, beautiful white doves will explode into the sky when this event goes off, it will be the shizzle, and the rizzle dizzle, the bomb, the bob-omb, the La Bamba, and the L'atomica, while also being mellow, downtempo, and on the DL. I hope you can forgive me for my previous brevity. :oops:

If you ever thought that $15 a year in registration costs and a box of software is a sign of respect you may be mistaken. I'm also not saying that you need write a novel either. You have the ability to speak for days on things that have no bering on art, music, or columbus for that matter. Yet when something comes up that is happening in our city it sometimes seems to get a brush off. I often wonder how many of these new events you make it to insteed of the norm. Hell, I don't even like OSU football, but I provide a place for people to discuss it if they wish. What's your point? I have my interests, you have yours, and everyone else has theirs. Seriously though, I patronize my fair share of events, mostly ones that strike my personal interest, but I try new things as well from time to time. But really, my attendance doesn't matter as much you'd seem to like to focus on for some reason. You seem to think this website is about ME. It's not called "Walker Underground". This site is for promoters to tell all of Columbus about their events, so whether I come or not is my own preference. I'm only one person in the crowd. If I want to go I'll go. Consider this website my extended invitation to everyone else. An extra step that not too many other people do.
The talk is always how the city needs improvement. SO when someone is improving the city it's nice to hear more than that's cool.
If I could fly out into space and spin around the earth really quickly like Superman to slow the rotation and give us 36 hours a day instead of 24, I would. And then I'd use those extra 8 hours to work more on this website and hopefully have enough time to respond to every single post with the level of detail that I have with this one.
But for some reason I still don't think that extra amount of work on my part would keep you from feeling the need to publicly state that you don't think this website is a valid contribution to this city, and for that I'm truely sorry. I don't know who you expect me to be, who you're trying to project upon me, or what you expect from this website, but it sounds like you're not satisfied with the results.
I'll have your money refunded to you in full. The check's in the mail.

Here i'll get us back on topic and give Artlyfe something more on topic to bitch about. How about this tired, cliched, anti-establishment-wanna-be, I can't make it in the commercial art world, so I'll act like i really don't care and, better yet, would prefer to be seen as a rebel, so I can justify my lack of true artistic talent, line of crap. As the saying goes, you're so different, just like everyone else.
I respect the efforts to throw these types of events, but why does the reason behind it have to be so negative? This group comes across like a bunch of bitter crybabies with no marketable talent, so they cant make it in the commercial art world. I'd bet my life that these attitudes would stop on a dime if any of these whiners had the chance to show in a successful commercial gallery. I guarantee they all love Basquiat and would piss themselves if compared to him. So transparent, such an art world cliche.
I've had some commercial success and some underground success as an artist, but no matter what I'd never want to be associated with this cop-out mentality. It gives those with truly progressive talents a bad name. Face it, NO artist wants to be seen as mainstream, but every true artist wants to live off the sale of their artwork and do nothing but create.
I doubt these are Pavlos words, so no offense. These dont sound like the thoughts of a dj. He's probably just the messenger.
Oh and I love "we dont need money, but $5-10 donations will be accepted." Will $30 donations be accepted too, or would that be selling out. :roll:

I've never seen this much hating in a thread. there was some hating on the price of the AM show and mynt being "ultra", but that's bout it.
I'm all for people trying new things instead of the same old go to a bar, watch dj, go home or wherever type of night. if anything I saw this as more of a "rave"(not quite rave, but more than just a party) or whatever you feel like calling it. seems more of a invite only party through word of mouth than an advertised event. and 5-10 isn't much to spend for a party being that it probably won't cover everything that went into putting it on. it's a donation because they aren't allowed to charge you or they have to pay taxes on the income and kick everyone out or stop them from drinking by 230. and being it starts at 1130 it sounds like it will be the afterhours place for the evening as well.
Pavlo, I'll be there. I got to sugar too late that friday to hear you, but thanks for putting me on the list.
this thread reminds me of the Dave Chappelle Show "Player Haters Ball" episode, that was some funny sh*t!

I wouldn't call it hate as much as I would call it walker explaining himself. I don't think there was any negativity stated about the event unless you count vagueness as a knock.
I really think the event will prove to be quite interesting and with the right venue could become quite a staple in the nightlife scene. Although there seems to be several places in town doing the whole art, music, and performance art agenda. So in the same respect it could just fizzle out like other over used ideas in this town.

I cant' speak for Artlyfes rant. But when your mission for an event directly hates on a certain culture, be prepared to get hated on in return. Sorry you cant see past the surface of such insincere mission statements with your buddies involved and all, but I'm impartial so i can. These guys are a dime a dozen in big cities. They got no love in art school, if they went at all, and have never gotten any love in respected galleries. So they eventually give up and act like they don't care and are actually MORE special because they don't/can't show in galleries.
What the group is trying to accomplish with the event is respectable, but go about it with a little more tact. Why turn off the majority of the arts advocates in town, those whose help they'd more than glad to have if it was ever offered? I sure has hell wont go because of that attitude. These Illuminated hacks are being elitist by trying to be anti-elitism. Again, so focking tired, cliche and annoying. And this is coming from an artist just as stubborn as they are.
