I recently joined an indie band several months ago and we've been stuck on trying to name our band. Band names in general are tough because you want to be original without being cliche but still memorable. Every time we think we've come close to something, it's been taken already by some crappy garage band in Canada that we don't want to be associated with.
I personally don't want to be associated with loaded words, vulgarity or controversial nature. I also don't want to be condescending or have words that can be easily misspelled since practically ever person I know is an atrocious speller. We would like to air on the side of being clever.
We've tried going through Apples to Apples cards, Random Band Name Generators and getting really drunk and writing stupid stuff down on a whiteboard and no luck so far. Do you start your band with the word "The"? Should you use a color or a number? Or do you just put three random words together? An animal? Make a word up? Maybe use something retro?
Our sound right now is a mix of The Black Keys and The Dead Weather.
