Casino in Canal?

By ROBERT PASCHENA casino is not in the cards for Canal Winchester as far as members of village council are concerned.
Development director Chris Strayer told council members at their meeting Monday that he and Mayor Mike Ebert had recently been approached by numerous village residents asking them both to look into locating a central Ohio casino in or near Canal Winchester.
Strayer said Columbus residents "have shown that they do not desire to have a casino where it's slated for" in the Arena District downtown.

Revenue cities, schools expected from casinos could go into general fund
Wednesday, December 9, 2009 3:07 AMOhio cities and villages that are thinking they might see a windfall from taxes on the casinos authorized by November's passage of State Issue 3 should think again.
In yet another lesson on how slippery are the promises made by backers of the casino issue, lawmakers and those advising them already are talking about ways the state's general fund can benefit from the taxes that casinos will pay to local governments.

City halts grant to clean up casino site
Tuesday, December 15, 2009 3:21 PMColumbus will withhold $651,000 in environmental cleanup money that the state approved for use at the Arena District site where developers plan to build a casino.
And the city wants back nearly $99,000 already spent on the cleanup, Development Director Boyce Safford said in a letter today to Plaza Properties, which owns the site.

Good move by Columbus. Plaza Properties gets what it deserves. I doubt this will effect the casino (Penn National), but it will dip into Plaza's profits.

I doubt this will effect the casino (Penn National), but it will dip into Plaza's profits.This will not dip into the profit of Plaza as per the Spokesperson Plaza was not required to deliver a "clean" site if they completed the sale. It adds about $800K to the cost to build the site by Penn.
They also could cut back on design elements to offset this move by the City. Remeber what goes around can come around in fair play. This developer has deeper pockets that the City in what they can afford to do. Or maybe we should spend our new tax increase on legal bills etc.
