The 200Columbus Bicentennial Celebration is already in full swing, but the party is going to be kicked into overdrive come September. That’s when idUS — an 11-day collection of events celebrating innovation and design — takes place.

Columbus to host 11-day celebration of innovation

Mayor Michael B. Coleman wants his city to have “swagger,” and some Columbus innovators think an 11-day celebration of innovation and design is just the way to put a little kick in the city’s step. Sandwiched between Oktoberfest and the Italian Festival, idUS will begin on Sept. 28 and stretch through Oct. 8.

FFOCOL Brings Films into Focus

FFOCOL (pronounced “focal”) is short for Film Festival of Columbus, which is scheduled to take place October 2nd through the 5th at the Gateway Film Center. The long version of the event name explains exactly what it is, but the short catchy abbreviation still requires a bit of explaining. That’s ok though, as this festival is a brand new event this year, which will take place in conjunction with idUS, a larger collection of events this fall that center around innovation and design.

Giant Mystery Gift Revealed

The Giant Mystery Gift that dropped onto Broad and High was revealed today during lunch. The present that many Columbusites were waiting for turned out to be a column banner, announcing the kickoff for Columbus’ newest signature event, idUS.

Idea Guys - Local innovators gather at idUS conference

Two years ago, Scott Ihrig and Shannon Morrison could barely pick out Columbus on a map. Now, they’re among the city’s biggest advocates. The principals at event-design and production firm IM Creative have been given the reins to idUS, a Central Ohio symposium of creative types and forward thinkers that runs from Sept. 28 through Oct. 8.

Following a ticketed speech from Roger Martin, idUS will help CCAD celebrate the opening of the MindMarket. The new facility comprises an art and design business incubator, a design lab and a thought lab. Join us next door in the CCAD warehouse for fun dancing, great local drinks, and a fashion show like none you've ever seen. Get there early for best spots to see the show, and stay until you can't dance anymore.
