In spirit of recent SNOW and SUN threads, I thought this thread would be appropriate. How have you prepared for Ice Out 2011?
I got both cars gased up, generator gassed up and on the charger, 15 gal of fuel on reserve. Need to salt the walks and we'll be ready to go.
I have to admit this mess is all my fault. It is because I washed my car yesterday. Sorry, guys.

Usually these kinds of storms are hyped to no end but this one actually does have some serious potential for damage.
I remember our last big storm on December 24, 2004 left some people without power for more than a week.

The thing with Columbus is we never know what we will get. Seems like we are always on the edge (no pun inded). Sure, the weather cries wolf a lot but occasionally he shows up.
Ice is always dangerous though. Even a thin coating can weigh down tree limbs, power lines and polish roads like a skating rink.
How did you feel about last summer and where are you from?

The ice here is funny. With so many older, densely packed neighborhoods, with giant trees, it doesn't take a lot of limb loss to wipe power out to massive chunks of town.
That said - we've had some serious thinning out of the weaker trees with the big wind storm of two years ago, the huge snow that followed, and the continued weird amount of high winds that we've seen the past couple summers.
I haven't found it to be overly hard to get around town, however, when we've had a lot of ice.

They rarely ever do. I suspect that any word of snow and ice brings back fond childhood memories of having the day off. The Bucks and the weather get a little too much attention, here, IMHO.

Twixlen's House is a designated calamity shelter. It is stocked with booze, canned goods and Plum Cake. If you can't make it to her house - then try for the Twixlen Toaster Mobile - there are enough supplies in there to survive for 17.2 days unless she scored canned goods from Kate recently, then about 25.2 days.

HA. It's true. What my booze cupboard lacks in fanciness, it makes up for in sheer quantity.

Can raise chickens in the city but I don't think any exception has been made for cows yet...

Ice storms are so hard to judge because just a few degrees makes a huge difference in how much comes as rain, snow, or freezing rain. I can last for weeks here happily, though will run out of coffee and milk in a few days.
Strangely enough cows and chickens are regulated under same code by cbus department of health. Can't imagine they would issue a permit for a cow, not on the size of my lot at least...
