I have Verizon currently with three lines for me and my kids. They want Santa to bring new phones(IPhones). Who has one with a different plan that they would recommend? Right now they are quoting me at least 225 for three phones per month cost. Anything better out there or is that what I am stuck with? Thanks!

Or, who has a different smartphone altogether they recommend?

I *think* Virgin Mobile has the cheapest plans that include data... the phones aren't overly fancy, but they could access facebook/twitter, have some app options. I'm not sure about web surfing.
There won't be any discount on multi-iPhones - you have to pay for each data plan separately... you could get it below $200 on AT&T, but not by much, and without unlimited minutes.

They have full-fledged Android phones like the LG Optimus and the Motorola Triumph that are fast and have the entire Android app store at their disposal. The real cost is upfront, as you have to buy the phones outright. You're looking at between $600-$900 for the phones I mentioned but the plans are super cheap. It's $40 per line per month for Unlimited Data, Unlimited Text and 1200 minutes with no contract. The amount you would save over the life of a standard 2 year contract is substantial. I've had the Optimus V for 6 months and I love it. An iPhone it isn't, but Android is pretty slick.
