I dated a girl once whos goal in life was to 'Produce the Oprah Show'.
She was a secretary (her word not mine) in one of the large companies in Chicago. That's an admirable goal; I thought.
But she had no producer or even any broadcasting experience. So I suggested school, didn't have time. So I suggested interning at local stations, didn't want radio. So I suggested interning at a local TV, she said I didn't understand. She wanted to produce the Oprah show. She was sure she was perfect for the job.
I did some research and gathered some contacts for her to meet. One guy I worked out with and he was willing to talk to her. Heck, Oprah even worked out at the same health club. Lets go run on the treadmill next to her. (OK, not next to her. Her 'trainers' ran next to her. But where she would see her)
She passed. None of the openings were for Producer of the Oprah Show.
She felt by accepting any other position besides producer she would not be following her dream and goal.
As you can guess, things didn't really work out. In any way.
(just sayin')
Being Producer of the soon-to-be-cancelled Oprah Show would most definately be a competitive job opening. Good luck even being heard back from Harpo.
Start small and move up big.
